Shifter boot question?
Hey guys,
Just a really weird question about the shift boot on my 94 integra. On all other cars i have noticed that the ring on the top of the boot is suppose to be connected somehow by a ring or something to keep it from falling down and exposing the shifter. I don't whether or not its just my car that has that kind of problem, or is there a part missing? So help me out here guys answer this dumb question for me....
thanks...

at the bottom of the shift ****, and at teh top of the shift boot, there is space. like a 1/2 inch of space, this is normal. on integras, the boot is not connected to the shift ****.
if you dont want it to sag, use a ziptie to make it stay up. just take off the lower center console because you're gonna need access from underneath the shiftboot. tie a ziptie where you want your top of the shift boot to hang from.

Are you using the stock shift ****? The stock **** should snap into the ring on the boot (except on '00/'01 ITR's).

the ring does not snap into the OEM shift ****, at least not on my 94. The boot sags slightly, but I do have a polished short shifter beneath it.
Although the shifter does get quite hot and sometimes one of my fingers touches the exposed metal part, not fun.

BUt since im getting a jdm itr shift linkage, i wont need to deal w/ that.
I have a 95 and the OEM shift **** did not screw to the boot. The shifter did have a rubber grommet/washer on it to keep the boot from going down, but I forgot to put it on when I switched to the B&M "rattler".
when i put on my aftermarket shift ****, it sagged about an inch. i thought it looked gay, so i put 3 or 4 spacers on the shifter, so the boot couldnt go down, it mounted flush with the ****.
I've used this trick on a couple of cars that had the same problem... take off the lower center console, mark off where you want the shift boot to sag til... then take a roll of electrical tape and wrap around the same spot, several times til there is sufficient mass to hold the boot in place. Put everything back together... and magic, your boot won't fall down anymore
