Default Shift Point - LS

I thought the best way to race/get max power out of the Integra is to shift at redline? But based on this Dyno from Comptech: http://www.comptechusa.com/images/dyno/2000LSplot.pdf , the LS engine decreases in power after about 6400 rpm. So should we shift once we get past the 6500-ish rpm powerband on the LS Integra? Or just keep it to redline since fuel cutoff is at 7100 rpm anyway?

if you know your car really well, you can kinda tell when the power dies off up top....when i was NA i used to shift at redline in first, then a couple hundred rpms before redline in second....it also depends on what mods you have as well.

The B18B and the B18C both decrease in power at the top of the powerband according to Comptech's dyno plot. But shifting at redline where there is less power does bring up a good point...

Below is what I copied from there website. The #'s are the last few of the plot which shows the increased power, max power, and decreased power.

It's not about when power starts to fall, since power starts to fall in most Honda motors before redline, but where your rpms land at after the shift. You want it to land near and before the power peak...and in most hondas, shifting at redline does the trick.

Well when you start tinkering it, it all changes..... my car peaks out at 189hp at the wheels with a rather nice violent curve up starting at 4000rpms

just shift as high as you can. Its better to make 110hp at 6600rpm than 65 at 4400.

to find optimum shift points, you must look at a dyno graph that plots HP vs. MPH, not rpm. you will have 5 curves, one for each gear. optimum shift point is where the curves cross. i never seen this type of particular dyno plot for an LS, but i have seen one for a celica gts. the curves never cross. thus, max performance is attained by shifting at fuel cutoff. i imagine that small displacement acuras are the same.

i agree.

i have a b18b turbo and when i took it to a dyno, it was still making power at redline. so its suffice to say that it all depends on your setup.

I wouln't run it to redline in a N/A car; you aren't making any more HP/Torque up at 6800+. You should be able to feel when the car isn't pulling up there anymore.

Here is max speed in gear (not a scientific table but my observations) then shift (205-50-15)
1st: useless, just control the wheelspin.
2nd: 58
3rd: 88
4th: 110

After I put in my blower, I noticed that the car would continue to make power after 6800 (but I won't raise my rev limiter, not a wise proposition without better valvetrain components).

Shift around 6700.

yeah it all depends on how fast u can get the rev's back up....on the LS it is beneficial to take the car almost to fuel cut off when shifting. that way u are closer to the poerband once u are in the next gear
