Routine maintenance on GSR
So I recently picked up a GSR hatch and was wondering what are some things I should keep my eyes on and some routine maintenance. The previous owner was a buddy who swapped the motor in about 4 years ago with a 94 JDM one and he always ran mobil1 synthetic with 89 octane. Since picking it up 2 months ago i kept up with the mobil1 but started using 91.
I checked the spark plugs and they look fine for now is there anything else i should keep my eyes on or i should do? I regularly check the clutch fluid, brake and etc, but is there anything specific i should do such as valve adjustment etc.
I also did a quick search but couldnt find much info for regular maintenace on a GSR
Thanks

Do everything you posted.
You shouldn't run synthetic in it,you should also be running 91 gas only.
The spark plugs should be NGK platinum as well as the wires.

Its more of a preference if you want synthetic. I use it on my '95 JDM B18c. Whatever you pick, stick to it and keep it the same as much as possible. Reason being so you can create yourself a routine.
Stay synthetic if previous owner used synthetic. Reason why people say don't use synthetic is because the car used regular before and synthetic being silkier may leak through old seals that the regular did not, causing you oil leaks.

Hey I didnt want to make a new thread about this but I was wondering what a good tranny fluid was? I read that the GM syncromesh was awesome for Hondas is this 100% true? Is there any other kind of fluid/oil I should look into? Also how many quarts would i need?
Thanks
Thanks

You need 2.3 quarts to be exact, can be found for round $12/bottle at your local GM dealer. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Yes.
GM Syncromesh FTW (one of several HT posts):

I just picked up a GSR also.. this is all I did.. it also depends on miles also mine has 140K
oil change with Valvoline high mileage oil and OEM filter.
Cleaned out break and clutch reservoirs and flushed with all new fluid.
Drained and flushed radiator. fulled with OEM fluid
Drained and flushed trans use OEM honda Trans fluid
new valve cover gasket/ vtec screen/ tube seals also did valve adjust
Also new NGK plugs also got new air filter.
I have a buddy who is a Honda mechanic and won't let me run anything but OEM honda fluids in my car which is fine cause they seem to work great for me and I get them at a good deal.
I bought my car from a girl so it needed some love hopefully if you buddy kepy up with the car it shouldn't need much

If you are changing the belt, change the water pump and tensioner while you're in there.

lol whut? I ran Mobil1 synthetic 5w-30 back in the day for about 10K-15K miles or so, then Valvoline MaxLife 5w-30 synthetic blend for around 175K miles, and currently have been running Mobil1 0w-30 synthetic for the past 2 years, changed every 6 months/6K miles. Haven't had any problems, and the 0w-30 helps reduce cold start engine wear since it's thinner than 5w-30, but still the proper viscosity at operating temperature.
GM Synchromesh Friction Modified FTW, I've been using it since my car had 160K miles on it, and now it's about to turn over 300K in a couple of weeks, still on all original transmission internals.
I try to change it every 25K, but I went 50K once on a single fill and it all came out looking clean, only slightly darker than new fluid.
Pennzoil Synchromesh IS NOT the same as the Friction Modified fluid. I personally will only use the FM fluid until I deplete my current supply, then will probably go back to the newer formulation of Honda MTF. The new formulation was not out yet when I started using GM SM FM in 2003.
I think they have 2 different kinds. Theres gm synchromesh friction modified and theres one thats just gm synchromesh. You can get the synchromesh at auto zone and the friction modified one I think you have to go to the dealer. I've also had this tranny fluid for about a year now and I like it. I still have 3rd gear grind but my tranny isn't gone yet lol.

Don't mess with nothing other than Acura Tranny fluid. Even the guys at Gearspeed say don't use purple stuff or anthing else, other than Acura/Honda Tranny fluid. I have a Type R tranny with Gearspeed Carbon Fiber syncros and they recommended Acura Tranny fluid. I've been running that tranny for 3 years and no problems.

For a daily driver we always recommend Genuine Honda MTF. However, I have heard of very good results from customers who use GM Synchromesh.
So I have been getting mixed opinions on this a lot and I just wanted to find out once and for all, should i be running regular oil through my engine? Like i stated above I know for sure the engine has been getting mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic for the past 4 years but before that im not sure, since it was a jdm motor and the previous owner probably ran regular im assuming.
My mechanic told me that i should switch back to regular and even though its been running synthetic for the past 4 years it'll be fine.
Some history on my motor. I had a small leak from the bottom left before and i changed the vtec selonoid gasket and VC gasket, still the leak continued so i changed the distributor o-ring and cam seal on the exhaust side i think? (its the one right beside the vtec selonoid), and then the leak finally stopped. I've been running mobil 1 and changing it every 5000 KMs (about 3100 miles) with a parts master filter.
Any opinions on this matter? I'd like to switch back to regular if its better for the motor, plus the cost of it is a big plus too
