Default revving

my friend told me that revving your engine before you shut it off was good for it, he didn't know why tho, cause he heard it from other people as well, I'm wondering if there is any reason behind revving before turning car off or if does nothing and it just eats up gas?

From what I have heard, this is only good for older carburated cars. It can actually harm your engine because it dumps raw fuel on the cylinder walls washing away the oil film and increasing engine wear at the next start.
