It'd be easier on the engine than revving it in gear. No load.

The brains(engineer guys) will say you should not rev the car without load. I have not had an engine blow up on me due to reving though. Supposedly reving without load allows the engine to accelerate in rpm to fast, possibly damaging it.

Don't you just love it when you get two responses that are totally contradicting? Who's right and who's talking like Cliff Claven, the mailman character from "Cheers"?

Assuming that they're correct, then it would be an issue with how quickly it moves through the rpm's, and not exclusive to simply revving it out of gear. If that's the case, then bring up the rpm's slowly.

Regardless of the detriments, neither should be any more harmful than making a spirited run or racing. No need to worry yourself about harmful consequences as a result of either.

well if you rev too high without a load then engine will run much faster than with a load and you can blow your engine...i wouldnt recommend revving for long intervals

Why do you want to rev your engine to 7,000 rpm's in neutral ? Just curious.

I did not notice that you were trying to rev that high. Anything over 4k is instant tire roast.
