Default rethreading shifter

i want to cut my shifter and shorten it so the gap between my shift boot and spoon shift **** is minimized. anyone ever do this? anything bad about shortening the stock shifter and rethreading it? i just think it would look a lot better without that big gap.

I didn't have to rethread my shifter when i cut it, but only the ***** with the plastic threads could fit without crossthreading.

just put some black electrical tape on the shifter below the shift **** and slide the boot over it and it will stay up. works everytime

I did this on my shifter. I cut it down and my dad put the shifter on a lathe and made it thinner so I could thread it. I'm not sure what size i used off the top of my head. If i get a chance tomorrow I'll find out for you.

I agree, because the shift **** I have doesn't look right at the height, and the boot doesn't look right all stretched out. It'd be nice to see DIY instructions for this... (w/ pictures!)...

is having less leverage bad? i mean it would probably just make the throw harder.
