Rebuilt Engine?
When you have an engine rebuilt, is it basically like you have a new engine? I have a 94 Integra RS and the engine has 116,000 miles on it. I want to go turbo, but not on stock internals and stuff. So i was wondering, should i just have my engine rebuilt, or should i order an engine with less miles on it and then have that built up to withstand the boost.
For Turbo/Super rebuilding an engine would probably be the best bet...that way you start with the engine and can buy good aftermarket parts. Buying an earlier engine would give you less wear but you would still have the original OEM parts, that weren't meant to handle the stress of turbos. It will probably cost about $1000 for just a longblock, with that you would be better off putting stonger rods and forged pistons and new seals everywhere in your current engine. Also you'll want to replace the valve springs and retainers in case they've gotten some slack over the years. Don't worry about your old engine, the block and head will last forever (well...along time atleast), once you replace all the moving stuff, it's practically back to new.
you can run 10 -11 lbs of boost on a stock ls motor safely with a turbo kit...... integra motors are strong but only until about 11 psi with stock everything, 14 psi with tuning and injector upgrades,.a rebuild is always good, but adding pistons rods, and head **** will always be good for higher boost levels, if you don't want to build your motor right away then just adding the turbo kit will do fine until you start getting boost crazy....then stronger internals are needed......
