Default Rebuilding seized engine (block)

I found an engine from either a 1990-93 Integra RS. The stamp on the block is B18. So it's a b18, but the transmission is automatic. All I really need is the head and the block anyway. However, the motor has seized up. I can get it for about ~100-150$ which I think is pretty cheap. I was just wondering if it can be rebuilt and be fixed. If so, what all would I have to do? Would it be worth it, or should I just find another motor that will probably cost me a lot more?

Also, I know this isn't the CRX forum, but this would be going into a 1990 CRX Si. I am going to run an obd0 b16a1 head swap for the LS/VTEC. And I'm not sure about transmission. If it wouldn't work in the car, please let me know. Thank you.

You need to establish exactly what's wrong with the motor before you buy it. "Seized" isn't a very good description. You also need to consider the fact that a stock rebuild can cost $500 or more (with you doing most of the work). It may be more economical to go with a motor you know is good for a couple hundred bucks more.

Regarding the tranny question. Any cable B-series tranny will do fine.

I'd say that sounds like a bad idea, prolly just going to end up being a money pit that never works right...the LS motors are CHEAP anyway. you should just spend a lil more on one that isn't seized. and dont use the auto tranny.

If I were to rebuild the engine (new pistons, bearings, etc) would that fix the problem? The guy said that he knew it needed new bearings.

I'm worried about the condition of the crank more than anything. If the bearings are shot, there's a good possibility that the crank is shot. If the crank is shot, then this project is going to end up costing a hell of a lot more than you initially bargained for.

If the crank IS shot, hypothetically, how much other damage could have been caused? I priced crank pulleys and they are about 90-120$. I've seen some for 500$, but those were "up to 700 hp" cranks that I won't need.

Think about it this way. It's $150 for the motor, $120 for the crank, $200 for new OEM bearings, you'll have main seals, a water pump, and an oil pump to worry about, plus piston rings if you don't have to overbore the motor do to rust/damage on the cylinder walls.

Basically at this point you could have already bought a working motor, plus several other parts.

So I should just save my money and wait for any kind of b18 block to go on sale on EBAY? Would 450 be a decent price for a block with shipping?

I've bought good running longblocks for $300 before. Check here in the marketplace, you might find something.

300 for a running block ---, this guy was charging 250, and then 150 for shipping. so it was roughly 400$.

The only things I'd be worried about are getting a good transmission with the best acceleration out of the cable Bs.

^ WTF? lol......

OP, If you feel that you can achieve this project on your own, rebuilt the beast and take pride in what you have done. Later down the road, you will be in the same boat by rebuilding the motor you bought running and your now back in square one.
If it were me, Id make it a project and rebuilt the whole engine. Expensive? Yes. cheaper and more reliable down the road, yes because, you rebuilt the engine, and you can take pride in your work.
If you see that it is impossible for you to do the work of rebuilding the engine, buy one that is running, and pray to god it is a good engine. Best of luck to you.

I like the GSR transmission. Short and unlike the B16 transmission, your not @ 4.5k roms on the highway. With the GSR, your about 4k rpm @ 75 mph.

$150 for one of those seized is expensive. you can get jdm b20s for $550 shipped, if you want a bargain engine get one of those. the time, money and labor in a rebuild will take the total a lot higher than you're expecting and waste weeks and months of your life

Is the engine in the car? Pour some mystery oil in the cyls, let it sit for a day, try and crack it loose the next day at the crank pulley.

I've done this to 3 ls engines, only one smoked obsenely, other two puffed a lil but ran for months
