Default Rebuilding motor. Need quick pointers and tips.

This is the first time i'm building a motor. I want to try to build a stock replacement from the block up.

I have a 95 LS special edition, of course with the B18b1 in it. I aquired another block to work on for now, and it needs to be bored out on all cylinders. Since i'll have to buy larger pistons to accomodate the bore, which pistons should i get? Should i buy type R pistons and have the machine shop match the bore on the cylinders?

Also, with type R pistons, will the normal LS rods and piston pins work? or do i need new ones?

Sorry i'm just new to this. Let me know if theres anything else i need to know when doing this. Such as bearings, crank, etc. I'm wanting a strong build, but my motive is not to build something to race. Just something strong to last a long time.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Also, if anyone would want to maybe call me and talk to me about this over the phone, i'll be at work all day, call my cell. 417-224-5254

i guess in this situation i would do o/s type r pistons,bore/hone/deck, shootpeen/resize rod for gsr bearings, run the larger arp rod bolts, polish crank, i personally like the oem mains but u can do acl and other companies that make them. do some research on it. if u have the extra cash i would do gsr oil pan, pickup, baffle. i would spend the money on balance rotating assembly if u plan on rev'n high rpm's for sure. it up to u if u want to or not but i would regardless if it was my motor. i believe thats all to a block. if im missing something sorry but hope this help u out or at least give u a guideline

The machine shop said it needed to be bored because there is 3thousandths wear in all the cylinders and 6thousandths grooves in cylinder 3. so they recommended i bring them new pistons.

Are there any normal oversized LS replacement pistons that they can size the cylinders for while allowing me to use all the LS parts? i dont want to get gsr this and gsr that and get the rods modified, i'd prefer to skip all that if possible.

Just want oversized LS pistons i guess. what are my best options? price is also an issue.

lol. your the one that asked for type r pistons. anyway whatever, you can get 81.5 pistons and then machine ur block. if u just want only stock and don't car about hp then yea just bore and hone a bigger size ls piston and replace all your bearings and seals then ur set

I think you need the rod ends machined or something like that for the pistons to fit. You should probably look for B16A pistons instead because they should fit LS rods withough machining. I think they are PR3 and P30 pistons. USDM vs. JDM. Forgot which one is which.

i'm the one that asked for type R pistons becuase i know they are bigger than the ls pistons. I didn't mean to give the impression that i was looking for performance upgrade. sorry ;(

I will look for those oversized LS pistons and see if i can find a set. Where is the best place? ebay?

nah its cool man im just teasing haha. anyway u can find aftermarket pistons that are o/s non vtec for like 80-100. they not that bad if u just using them for like stock. i dont have any problem with them when i do builds for stock. and p30 pistons would be good too. u dont need modification with those pistons.
