Hey Everyone. I was thinking about the bore and stroke of a b18a1. What if you took the head, pistons (for higher comp.) and crank off a b18c1 (maybe shorter stroke?) to make an ls/vtec? I'm a noob at engine building (thank god i'm not doing it) and i was also wondering how stroke is calculated. Is it measured from the crank? I am asking cause i was reading up on horsepower, torque and ls/vtec. I know how the stroke and the weak connecting rods/bolts of an b18a1/b1 would not allow revving any higher than its 6700 rpm(?) redline and was wondering if you simply replaced the crank with one from a b18c1 if it would make any difference in reliability (for an ls/vtec). I know i dont make much sense but i am not that good at explaining things. So if any of you could help me out with your thoughts i would appreciate it. ---Thanks, Matt

Yes you can put a GSR crank/rods/pistons into an LS block. Would it yeield as much torque as the LS...NO. The weak point in the LS isnt the rods themselves its the rod bolts. ARP sells connecting rod bolts for this to allow you to raise your rpm's higher. Personally id use the GSR pistons on the LS rods with the LS crank. Have the rods resized with the rod bolts ( do a search on this topic)
