Default Quick question

Hi, I will be buying an Integra real soon and today I'm going to go check out few more. Originally I was going to purchase a GSR but they are very rare around here and everyone told me to go with an LS. So I did much research on the LS and set in stone that would the car to get. However, I just came across a 1994 Integra GS (Is this legit, because in the faq page, it says it never came out until 1997) with a very nice price and the deal is almost too good to be true.

But I have heard nothing about Integra GS, It's always the Type R, GSR, and the LS.

So what I'm trying to find out it, is the GS a good car to get if I want to get into the tuning scene. Originally I was going to purchase the LS and do a GSR swap or a conversion to V-tec. So what am I giving up if I get the GS over the LS? Or is it better?

Lastly, will the GS be more than the LS to insure, because 1 of the main reasons I was going to get an LS was because it was much cheaper.

I appreciate all help! Please and Thank you!

I aint sure all the difference in trim level... But the only difference between an LS and Gs integra is interior options..

They have the exact same engines... So the ability to mod is still there...

If the car is in good condition... Get it...

So technically, I could still do an LS-Vtec? If it came down to it?

Exactly. I always understood that a GS was a GSR without the B18C1...

The FAQ also says not the same suspension. Well this is cool, I'll probably pick this car up. It's probably cheaper to fit the GSR engine into it as well then.

So last concern is the insurance, will it be more than the LS?

I'd assume slightly so by just a tad due to it being a higher trim model. Who knows they might classify it as the same.

I hope they don't classify it as the same as the GSR -_-

I went to go see the GS today, it was really sketchy. First off, does anyone know which front end has a radio antenna on the driver side? The guy said it's a japanese front end, but it's the same circular lights but has a black Honda emblem on it, I'm not sure if it was just an emblem swap and they painted over it or what. He says there's 150k on the engine and showed us the used car papers and it's weird, it goes from the original seller having 120 on it, to the next person selling it at 250, then next person it goes back down to say 130k, he said they made a mistake. So I don't know what to believe there, The engine cover paint is peeling and I don't know if that's just from age or because the engine is really over 250k and has been rolled back.

What are your thoughts? Also, does a GSR engine fit into the GS exactly the same as it would an LS or does the GS already have some of the parts to operate the GSR engine and it's full capacity?

Sounds fishy. If you can get it really cheap and intend to do a engine swap, (make sure the body is in very good condition) then I say get it. This is a opportunity to build it the way you see fit. What year is this thing? Can you post some pics?

sorry, forgot the add the link -_-. It's there now. Also if the seller reads this board, I'm sorry if this offends you, I'm just being cautious and getting professional opinions before I jump the gun.

yeah, that's the one I read. LOL. No offense to the RS! Much love to all integras, I just have "specifications" lol.

If you guys think I shouldnt buy that one, I am going to buy an LS with 230k for 1800, with cancerous rust on the quarter pannel, but I will replace the whole thing and that should work out much better. The interior in that car is mint.

here's the link to that LS http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ149047763

he emailed me a photo of the rust, it looks worst than expected. I was hoping it would cost me only 200 dollars to fix but this looks a lot worst then what 200 can do. what do you guys think?

the guy selling the GS is kinda sketch. he obviously modified the car too. it has 98+ tailights i think judging by the pictures. it also had clear corner lights on the front. and when he says "mod chip" the ECU has been chipped i am assuming. hopefully someone reliable chipped it.

on the other hand the LS looks great cuz its all stock lol. just the rust :O

I just want to touch on a few things for you. First dropping in a B18C1 is about the same in any factory B series equiped car. Whether it is a GS LS or RS makes no difference. So if you can get an LS in better condition for around the same price, and the motor swap is your biggest concern don't fret it, get it. The only difference between the three trims are little things like Interior, P/S and A/C.The GSR is a GSR simply because of it's motor. So no matter what the trim level is you are still going to need to do the same amount of work. And as far as this car goes, personaly I wouldn't do it. You are already questioning yourself about the car. That is not a good sign. Find one you feel comfortable with. Take the time to check a few more out, and pay close attention to the small details. Look under the car for undercarriage rust. Check for mods the previous owner did (some people do crazy hack jobs, what they may consider to be good work may be a death trap for you.) And rust can be a B I T C H. And costly to properly fix at a shop. Stay clear of this car, unless you are confidant (which you don't seem to be) that you can get it in proper condition. It's your life your putting at stake by getting into a half assed machine. Just my 50 cents.

yeah, that's what I was feeling. I think right now I'm leaning towards the LS and I'll fix the rust. Then later down road I will do a swap. Anyone see flaws in my plan, 230km on the engine isn't too bad for what I'll be paying and for how clean it is, other than the rust of course.

Lol my math and conversions suck. How many miles is 230km? Can you repost the pic of the rust? It's not showing up. And where are you located?

I am in Toronto, Ontario

I don't know how to convert it, lol. If that link works, how much do you think it would cost to repair that? I was hoping to find the quarter panel and replace it, but this rust looks really extensive.

It doesn't work. Bring up the picture and load it onto photobucket or another site like it and then you can post it here. Just copy and save it to your PC.

Holey Hell. I don't know how priceing works up there but here in the US that is at least a 4-$500 job at a minimum. I mean if the rest of the car is in great shape it may be worth it, but with that much rust I think you should go look at it in person and see what else might be rusted. And your deffinately going to need a new quarter for that car.

Yeah, I hope underneath the car is fine. I'm going to check the car out Sunday.

I mean I can afford the 500 dollar job, it'll still work out better then getting the other car and cheaper as long as this is the only problem with the car. The one thing i am I concerned with is the high millage, but I am getting what I paid for and my friends tell me it'll last.

Lol I found a conversion claculator. 146,000 miles really isn't to bad. But deffinately check out the rest of the body. But keep in mind you may find better. I mean $1800 isn't bad but you can find lower milage for $2000.

As far as that rust, like I said 4-$500 AT A MINIMUM. Ask him to test drive it. Take it to a body shop and get a quick estimate. Would suck to get the car then find out you gotta pay $1000 for the body work.
