Default Quick Question

The part that is circled in this picture: It has what looks like oil or some kind of "oily" gunk. I checked my oil today and realized that it was a lot lower then average then what it was 2 weeks ago when i changed my oil. I went under my car today and tightened my oil filter up a little bit and the bolt on the bottom of the oilpan. Could it possibly be that i have a bad gasket? Im not sure. Any input would be great! Thanks!

the VC gasket is easy to change. If you do change it make sure you cleam everything really well, and use a little honda bond where it is needed.

Yeah like said above it most likely is your valve cover gasket since the mount is seated right next to the cover

your oil will get alot hotter as the fluid level drops, casuing the oil to burn and evaporate out through the valve cover gasket

I would just change out the whole VC gasket set : valve cover gasket, grommets, and spark plug tube seals. Use a LITTLE hondabond on the corners and around the cam bumps. i'd also reccomend you get a timing belt cover... that looks pretty sketchy. one decent sized pebble/debris and its all over

its probaly valve cover gasket...but did you torque your valve cover in correct spec? try that first before running off and buying a new one....torque it starting from the inside and work your way out in criss cross pattern....

no. he means torque the 10mm nuts on the vc to the proper spec. you may not need a new gasket.

Yes, you will need a torque wrench to do it properly. I just gauge it by hand until they are snug but to each their own

Edit: If you tightened them down too tight you may have stripped the threads

Ahhh ok, well I was just worried because I pulled out this morning and saw some oil on the ground and it made me a little worried because i thought my vc gasket was bad or something. So it should be nothing to big to worry about then? thanks:]

your valve cover gasket could be bad....but what im saying is...remove your valve cover, clean up the dirt and debris, whipe down your gasket, and put it back on. Then torque down the valve cover nuts using a torque wrench. Drive for a week or 2 and see if there's still oil drips...if so, then the gasket is bad. Most people hand tight the cover and they either over tighten or have one or 2 nuts looser then the other causing oil leaks even though their gasket is still fine. Borrow a buddies torque wrench first and then do it this way before purchasing some a new gasket
