Problem (need help fast)
Today was the day to put back on the stock wheels. I started to it got all the 17's off and tightened (not tourqed) all the stock wheels on. One dumb thing I noticed that pissed me off was that I had a nail in two different wheels. That was the least of my problem. While tourqing the first wheel down, the wheel lock template grinded or something, so it no longer fits. So the rest of the wheels with the lock lug couldn't be tourqed. This is even better, on the second wheel, I tourqed the lug and stud right off. My questions are, is this tourqed off lug covered under warranty? and, Is it safe to drive on wheels with three tourqed lugs, and one wheel with two tourqed lugs, right next to each other?
that sux.. I'm assuming your putting your stockers back on for winter or something like that... anyway what brand are your wheel locks? if their McGuard I think you can either copy down the key/lock # from the box or send them the key for a replacement (theres a fee)... if its something generic then I don't know...
you can try calling the dealer you bought the car from but I don't know if their going to cover the broken wheel stud.. I haven't had one break on me so I don't have personal experience w/ warranty issues regarding this...
what did you set your torque settings at? 80 ft-lbs? in the 7 yrs or so I've owned my car I've ALWAYS used a torque wrench and have NEVER broken a stud on my car or my friends cars... did you use a torque wrench? or did you just tighten it until it "feels" tight or something?
no its not safe to drive on 3 torqued lugs... get the broken stud fixed ASAP....

Driving on 3 lugs temporarily and lightly is okay. Two is definetly pushing it. If you're very near the Acura dealer, and it's a rear wheel (with 2/4), I'd say it's okay.. but you better be very easy on it. If it's a front wheel or a long drive I'd get the car towed.

Here's the deal, I had no tourqe wrench so I tightened till it felt tight. Bad idea. Also, I live 20 min away from the dealer, and the wheel with the two lugs tighted on it is on the front. Thanks for the replies.
Tightening until it "feels tight" and bouncing your bodyweight on a lugwrench is not the same thing. If you've used a torque wrench, you can feel about where 80 lbs. is. I've been tightening with the factory wrench a few months now because my torque wrench broke-even when changing to race tires for the track.
Start using a torque wrench
ANd get the car towed.

i'd say driving w/any # of lugs under 4 and not fully tightened and torqued is extremely dangerous
unbeknowns to me... my front right wheel had only 3 on and they were just tightened---- i was driving and noticed my car bucking around-- at 1st i just thougt i needed an alignment real bad- but then i checked it out and the wheel so loose it was about to fall off....
Granted I was racing w/friends and going about 90... luckly i stopped and noticed the problem.....but imagine if the wheel came off while i was going that fast? i'd be dead-- get it fixed asap

its probably because you overtorqued them... I use a torque wrench and you'd be surprised at how light 80 ft-lbs feels...
I had a dumb *** friend who was helping me put on my rims/rotate rims... he was tightening the front and I was tightening the back wheel.. his dumb *** decided he needed to "tighten" the lug nuts (aftermarket rims..hollow/acorn tuner lugs) by stepping on the rim key and lug nut wrench
... the tuner lug ended up splitting...he's about 160 or 170 lbs and he stepped on the lug wrench
I was like wtf r u doing I'm going to torque it down.. but when I got to the rim/lug nuts it was too late.. the lug had split.... it was a major b*tch to get that lug off and replaced
anyway after you get it fixed its time to buy a torque wrench... and after you use it.. make sure you dial the setting back down to 0 or whatever the lowest setting is (when not in use/storage)....

Thanks a lot. I'm going to call Acura and see what they can do. In the future I'll probably just take the car to a shop and have them do it, unless it would ve cheaper to buy a torque wrench. Hopefully I can get this solved.
