Default Problem diagnosis

I'm pretty sure its the starter, but I wanna double check with you guys.

The problem has been on and off for months, some days I'll go to start the car and I'll just hear click, then I'll try again and it will start. Later on it would turn a bit stop, then just click, I'd try again and it would start.

The other day we ran the stereo a while and the car wouldnt start again...figgured it was a dead batt, so we push started it (started at maybe 5 kph). Drove it for 45 minutes to charge....Tried tp start it again...click...click...nothing....push started it again down a hill...this time it had to get to about 15 kph to start. (I assume this means the battery was lower since it took a higher speed to start the car). So I figgured my alt wasny charging. Just for kciks I cranked it while it was idling to try and spin the starter in case it was on a bad spot. Car started fine after that for about 3 weeks.

Today I went to crank it, spun 2 or 3 times and died....have only been getting click click since. I push started it and tried to crank it at idle to spin the starter again.....but nothing happens...the solenoid doesnt even seem to engage cause I dont hear anything...no grinding...nothing. The ABS light does come on for about 3 seconds when I do that tho.

I checked my voltage on the batt...its at 12.59 V. When the car is at idle with everything off except the daytime running lights, I get 14.49 volts. I put my headlights and highbeams + rear defroster on and at idle I get 13 V. I think this means the alternator is charging probperly. I dont have the equipement to check the power output and dont feel like removing it to check...but I believe this is normal.

So in conclusion...bad starter? Just unsure why it would just completely stop spinning/...BTW I beat on it with a hammer and nothing happened.

sounds like the starter is the culprit. Also, check the connections on the starter. Does Autozone do free testing on starters? Might wanna take it to them.

I checked the connections...they are tight.

Alass there is no autozone in canada. I'll replace it and hope.

Does the alternator sound fine?

Yep, it's the starter. They short out all the time.

yeah, it sounds like your alternator is fine, I'd say check out the starter...it could be other things, but it's usually the starter...mine is going too...
