Default possible cam timing problem..need help

just installed a set of crower cams in my friends ls/vtec. but now the car won't start. we set the crank at tdc but noticed the markings on the gears was off a tiny bit. we tired starting up the car and now it won't run. it cranks over but dies right away. we also noticed wehn we took off the spark plug that they has oil on them. i'm hopefully thinking its the seals but we will see. Would the cam timing being off affect the car from running or is it more likely the fact of the oil on the plugs and boot preventing the car from running?

When my intake cam slipped all the way retarded, i could not turn my car over either. Definitely correct your cam timing.

Make sure that the white mark on the crank pulley line up when the two cam gears line up. Then make sure you have the plug wires on the proper firing order. Most likely the "oil" you are seeing on the plugs is just gas since it is not firing properly. Did you do a valve adjustment? The new cams will need one for sure.

If you try to turn the car over without bolting down the valve cover properly... you will dose your sparkplugs with oil

Someone lazy and trying to tune cam gears with an UNcut valve cover is usually the the culprit ..

clean the holes and plugs off .. make sure the cover has the proper torque ... start it up .. then double check the plugs and see if they are full of oil again ... maybe the spark plug hole seals are fragged ?
