Please Help with 2 GSR Problems
(1) My 98 GSR with 64k miles is making a squealing noise on clutch engagement which I can only discribe as what a squealing belt sounds like. During a normal start if I have the revs @ 1500 and slide the clutch pedal out with some gas in first gear I get a brief squealing noise as the clutch travels though the 3/4 of the way out point to fully engaged. It lasts for less then a second and it only does it in first gear. Fortunately the problem used to be only noticable sometimes. Now it seems to be happening a lot more often and is just very annoying because it sounds like a slipping belt on a cheap old american car. If I start off by syncing the clutch slowly without any gas and then applying throttle after it is engaged I get no squealing. It seems to be the minor clutch slipping that is done on daily driving that causes it to make the noise. What is weird is that the clutch doesnt give any other signs of breaking down what so ever. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what is actually causing it?
(2) My A/C fan seems to be going out. More and more often when i turn on the accessory fan (with or without the A/C on) it is sluggish to start up and takes a while to start spinning. I know this is a sign that it needs repair or replacement but it seems odd that it would be going out after only 64k miles. Can anyone suggest anything to check for or minor things to replace that might fix that problem? And if the fan needs to be replaced any ideas on where the cheapest place would be to get one?
Thanks for any replys.

It might be your throwout bearing. When they go the ussually don't do anything bad but make an annoying metal grinding noise when in gear and disengaging the clucth. It will also make a sound like crickets chirping but will go away if you step on the clutch. May that's your problem.
I thought about the throw out bearing but Ive heard that noise before on other cars and I dont think this is it. The problem with my car is only audible when the clutch is being engaged at a certain point when starting out in first gear. Thanks for the suggestion. Any other ideas?

Is the clutch stock/original. If yes, it may be going out 64k is a lot for one. It could also be a glazed flywheel or pressure plate. I have and aftermarket clutch, the material is aggressive. Mine and 3 of my friends with similar clutches have this symptom.
64k is not alot for a stock clutch. It depends on how good you are at shifting and how much you abuse your clutch. I have friends that have had over 120k on a modded engine with the stock clutch.
