This happened only when he was stopped but he said it doesnt do it anymore.. What do you guys think it is? can it be the thermo? waterpump lmk thanks

make shure your fans kick on first. start your car and let it run, a/c off. tell they kick on. if thery dont, check your thermostatic switch. its on the thermostate houseing. jump that 2 pin connector on the harness side and see if the fans kick on.

Had the exact same problem. Replaced the thermo and that was the end of it. Make sure to replace the gasket as well. Also, check the fuse for the radiator fan.

for thermostat. Also could be fans as previously stated. Check fans, if they work replace thermostat.

Did you bother to check the coolant level? That's the first thing you check. Check for leaks in the little hoses under the IM and throttle body. I am running an Autozone thermostat, no problems here after like 70K miles of it being installed, but mechanical parts can fail right out of the box. Make sure the system is bleed properly.

How many miles are on the motor? Since you said fan kicks in, first thing i would check is the hoses and thermostat. There is a thread on here where you can check your thermostat. Make sure fluids look good and full.
