Default Overheating issues. Ideas?

A few days ago, my car would start to overheat around town unless I turned the heater to full blast, once I did that everything was fine, just hot inside.

Even with it on at full blast on the highway, it will start to creep up when I'm going up inclines or in excess of 70mph.

I haven't been driving much lately, just back/forth to work with the heater on, cuz I don't really plan on blowing my motor.

Thermostat?

Radiator?

Heater core?

Water pump?

Fan thermoswitch thingy?

FWIW, 95 GSR swap in 92 Civic hatch, header/2.5" cat/cat-back. Never any problems before this.

If I left any info out.. lemme know.. I need to buy some parts and fix this pronto.

The coolant level was fine when I checked it when the problem first started and looks to be fine still, and there's no dried coolant in my engine bay anywhere.

Stock radiator for Civic Si's, but it has always cooled fine for the past year that I've had this swap, so unless this is happening because it's clogged, it shouldn't be the problem. I do have a del sol dual core to install, and will do, just want to figure out what the problem is before I go blindly replacing things.

have you noticed any coolant on the ground? also, water pump...how many miles on the car? if there is no leaking coolant i would say its something to do with the thermostat.....is the fan turning on for the radiator?

I haven't noticed any coolant on the ground, but it has also been raining, and I leave for work at 4:30am so it's dark and I guess I wouldn't anyway. The water pump... has 70k+ on it. And when I turn the car on in the morning, I hear a weird "shreiking" type of noise, I guess that is probably what it is eh, I'll prolly order a water pump tonight..and do my timing belt..yada yada. Argh. PITA crank pully bolt here I come.

Oh hey, do you listen to a lot of jungle?

yes yes, lots of jungle.

i wouldnt be so quick to order a water pump...it could be something smaller or more simple....you could take it to a shop and have them leak-test it....

yeah, i mean without me being there to look at it its hard to tell you whats up......if you notice no leaks (you definitely NEED to check) then it could be the radiator cap, air in the system, thermostat/switch maybe your fan doesnt turn on? maybe the radiator is clogged like you said.....why dont you do a full coolant flush and see if it still starts to heat up.

I had overheating problems similar to yours. I changed my thermostat to a Spoon one and used Redline water wetter. When I was over heating I already had changed my water pump so I kind of doubted that was the problem. Im assuming it might be your thermostat just being stuck.

Does your radiator fan ever kick on when the temp goes up? It could be a bad sending unit on the fan switch- usually on the bottom of the radiator. Happened to me. Just jump it to see if that does it.

Cool. I think what I'll do is flush the coolant, and toss a new thermostat and radiator cap on there and see if that fixes it. Prolly just throw the del sol radiator in there too since it's easy. Lot less work than the focking water pump/timing belt mess.

Now if only the rain would go away.
