Default overheating?

My integra recently started overheating. not because of lack of fluid, and the fans arent broken, they work, but whatever sends a signal that says "hey your **** is overheating" is loose. Whatever that sensor or whatever that is back there works but is loose. because when i let my car sit, idle. when it gets hot like halfway mark. fan dont turn or or nothing. even in secondary position but when i wiggle that plug or sensor or whatever. the fan starts to work? anyone know what that plug is or whatever?

Fan switch is a brown plug/sensor on the thermostat housing (check the backside of the engine, by the transmission/starter area).....or follow the lower radiator hose up (it connects to it). Sounds like you already narrowed it down to wiring though.....so Im not sure if that helps or is the information you were looking for.

ok cool. Does anyone have a picture of that side of the block to show the Fan switch ? That would really be helpful. I'm at work right now so I can't really go out to my car and peep it out

Its the brown plug circled in red.....its a hard area to get to on a GSR with the intake/distributor in....its easier to get to on a LS/B16 due to the intake manifold design.

if your fans are working, do you think it's a bad fan switch?

you should try doing a coolant flush to make sure there's no air bubbles in the lines.

you could always get a koyo aluminium radiator. my car doesn't even get to full operating tempature. hahahahaha

Then you have a bad thermostat, because the thermostat stays closed (which means no fluid is moving through the radiator) until the car is warmed up.

My needle stays at the line before half way. Is that normal operation temperature?

To OP my 00 LS fan switch looks like the 1 in the pic.

normal operation temp is half way mark. my needle usually only goes to quarter way since i have a new full size koyo. i don't even have my slim fans plugged in. lol never over heats.

Normal operating temps can vary slightly when looking at the temp gauges of our Integras. Differences in the thermostat used and condition of temp sensors that feed the gauge, and the gauge itself can cause slight variances. Make sure your temp is in the proper operating RANGE and that it doesn't fluctuate.

The previous poster stated that the proper operating temp is at the half way point on the gauge. For his car this could be true, but mine has never reached the half way point since I have owned it except for when the water pump went out and on another occasion when the original radiator pooped out. My car is a 92 RS, and almost all of the 2nd Gen posts I read on G2IC give their operating temp on the gauge as being somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2.

When I changed my thermostat, the temp gauge needle gave a slightly different reading, but still way short of the 1/2 mark on the gauge. BTW, I have 300,500 miles on my integra, driven hard and always reliable, I have never been left stranded.
