OUCH...distributor seized up!!!
well i was driving last night, and I'm downshifting 5-4 and all of sudden I get a huge power loss and studdeirng...if thats not enough sparks start flying from underneath the car
I coast over to the shoulder. anyways, I get the car towed home today, not knowing its the distributor yet...I check the t-belt and examine the head as best I can, take the plugs out and check the cylinders as best I can..looks fine. take the dizzy off and what do you know, the ****** is frozen stiff and seized. I haven't taken it apart yet, but just wondering if there could be any other major damage on the motor(ie-valves, internals, etc.) from the dizzy seizing up?? I know its hard to guess, but any input is wlecome and appreciated. thanks

what the hell is a dizzy?
Anyway, it might have damaged the end of the intake cam where it is keyed in.... other than that, no.
The important parts of "checking the head" can not be done without taking the head off, or using a fiberoptic camera
The only problem I could see would be maybe a fuel/vaper lock or something depending on how many intake cycles the engine went through.

dizzy, you don't know what that is? let me tell you. stand up, hold on your chair, run around it about 50 times. now stop. that is dizzy.
Must be the snoop version of a ditsy.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
she runs!!!!
took the dizzy cap off and it seems the set screwizzle fellizle out of the rotorizzle and got caught in the dizzy gearillze. LOL
but seriously the set screw somehow fell out of the rotor and got cuaght up in the distributor gear...WTF!?!?! don't ask me how, I'm stumped the threads seems fine on the shaft. anyways I fished it out, screwed it back in, re-installed the dizzy and she started right up! I'm still not gonna drive it until I get a new dizzy tommorow becasue #1 the key on the end of the distributor seems wobbly and #2 another part insdie the distributor seems VERY loose and might hit the gear(I'm thinking it might have gotten smacked by the set screw when it was tumbling around inside)...either way I'm happy to see everything is wokring though and the motor is still kicking! yall don't know how happy I am right now!!!!!

Can you explain like what it does and stuff?
So how does it damage your engine? Im guesisng if no spark comes the engine will either spark by itself through compression(like diesels i think) or not spark at all, and you'll feel it right?

sends a spark to each spark plug - it uses a rotor that spins with the cam, and when the metal rotor touches 1 of the 4 little prongs inside the cap(black part) it sends a spark to that prong, which sends the current through the wire and into the spark plug... ANd continues to spin...

you ok in my book man!!! We all started somewhere!!! Good luck with all your repairs, you will find that hondas are easy to work on!!!
BTW, just for fun, and a little shock, put your hand close to the rotor cap while the engine is running. hehe. remember I said shock

Nothing should happen unless your body is grounded (aka barefoot or touching the frame of the car)

well if the boot on one of the wires isn't covering the metal it would shock u considering you would prolly ground urself with ur arm holding onto frame or whatever so u dont fall over.
When my 1 st dist. went out on me my car shot out flames and pieces of my cat and melted it. when my second one went out i just got done installing my nos and went to the track had fun and on the way home it sputtered half way there and then just died.

yeah that sounds pretty similar to my situation with the sparks and flames and all...scary ****

Where are these sparks and pieces of metal coming from? If the distributer itself is broken, then all thats gonna happen is misfires, and bents rods. But where do these flames and pieces of metal come from?
well I didn't get any metal.... all i had were sparks...as for where they came from I'm clueless. only thing I can remotely think off is tons of fuel being dumped and no spark to ignite so it starts puddling in the cat and BOOM...sparks...thats my guess
