No cat, no resonators, stock muffler... rattling ??
Hey, I don't exactly have a stock muffler system, but the canister itself is stock.
I have a stock gsr header, gutted cat, no resonators, 2.5" cat back mandrel piping to a new model type R muffler.
Problem ? Nothing seems to be touching metal, but from 3k to 6k rpm, I have a loud vibration/rattle sound eminating from around the muffler area. A muffler shop guy told me that because I have no cat/resonator, the un restricted exhaust flow is causing the stock chambered muffler to resonate.
I am kinda skeptical on this as I had the shop install the muffler and they say it's perfect, with no metal to metal contact.
So is this true ? Do I need to shell out another $100 for a 2.5" resonator ???

Re: (X2BOARD)
I have a rattle too, also coming from the muffler area. I'm running a 4-2-1 header, carsound cat, 2 1/4'' mandrel bent piping w/ resonator, and a stock LS muffler. I think the muffler guy is correct about the chambered muffler to resonate. THe rattling is quite annoying tho, especially when you're tryin to get WOT, and all you hear is a buzz. If anyone has another advice, please share it

Hmmm... you are both running a cat...
I've never heard the rattle on a chambered muff before this. Anyone else have input ?

yeah you are not gaining anything by running your setup actually I would think that you are causing more harm then good

Jeez... if I had a nickel for every time someone told me that ! lol
I am running this exhaust setup purely for aural reasons... the 2.5" straight thru exhaust I was running was too loud for me daily, so I made due with the loss of top end and went with a chambered muffler (can't afford another twin loop right now). The low end gained some tho... so it was a trade off.
Problem is... now the rattle/resonation is about as loud as a N1 muffler for a few thousand rpm, so I'm kinda losing the reason I did this...
