if you get an RSR your sound level will go way down, and you'll still have the performance

It is mostly all in the muffler... I have a testpipe and headers and the rsr exhaust and it is fairly quiet. My intake growl definitely overpowers the exhaust note. Taking out the cat will greatly increase the noise from your exhaust too, but the muffler is responsible for 90%, thats why it is a "muffler".

RSR is a $450 exhaust that is quiet, almost like stock, and powerful, almost like stock. basically, for all intents and purposes, noise = power. if it's quiet, it probably doesn't make as much power. however, unless you have a worked over engine, it's probably not too much of a power loss. only a few ponies is probably worth the noise reduction. anyways, try a flowmaster. seriously, i'm not joking. they don't cost a lot, and are a little on the loud side of halfway in between stock and no muffler (bullet style "muffler"). if halfway to stock is too loud, then get an aftermarket cheap muffler. that will be about a quarter of the way from stock to loud. if that's still to loud, you're too old.

RS*R ExMag, Greddy SP2, and Apex'i World Sport 2 are all good quiet exhausts to look into...

if you have money. i love the Apex'i WS, but i don't have $450 for it and probably never will.
