Mudflaps?? Remove or don't?
Hey guys, I am tired as hell, just finished fully detailing my car
. Washed it and gave it a full wax for the winter season. I noticed when waxing that my mud flaps are split and it looks kinda funky. Now I want to know, what exactly do they do? I don't drive on gravel or dirt roads and they look wierd so what will happen if I remove them? Will my car get more dirty faster or what
? People with pictures of them removed post them up.

Probably just kick up more dirt/mud on that bottom side of the bumper where the mudflaps are.
Shouldn't make any major difference to take them off.

The car is VSM. I will take them off tomorrow and see how it looks after two-weeks. I just waxed the car so a little dirt wont hurt.

I have my front ones off and the rear ones on. I like the way the front looks without them, but the rear bumper looks hollow with them off.
As far as dirt goes, they get dirty a little bit faster, but I hardly ever go a week without washing my car so it doesnt really matter. Just make sure that you dry off the tires and rims because if you start driving with them wet you'll end up with some nice dirty spots all over your door when the tire flings the water.

I prefer to have them on, at least on the rear if nothing else. If you don't have any kind of rear lip or valence, the rear mudguards continue the wheel arch on around and down. If it's not on there, the bumper stops alot higher above the ground than the sideskirts do, and IMHO looks weird.
Also, if you don't have the rear ones on, the sides of the bumper will flap and vibrate pretty bad when driving on the highway, as reported by a friend of mine when we were on our way to the Nashville H-T meet, since I had not gotten a set that would fit my new 98+ rear bumper yet. The rear mudguards double as braces between the sides of the rear bumper cover and the body and help keep it from moving around too much.
I put my front ones back on a couple months ago, but I had to chop about 2" off the bottoms of them in my dad's power miter saw to keep them from scraping every little bump and dip in the road.

Alright cool guys, I think I have made up my mind. I'm going to take off my front ones and see how that goes for a while, but I will leave my rear ones on.
Thanks everyone.
