mpg ftw!
before i start, ill tell you that i have a 93 integra, with an obd1 chassis running a 95 ls ECU and b18b engine. second, ive got the worst tranny, the 90-91 ls tranny. and im running stock-size tires and wheels. but anyway..
i just got back from cincinnati/newport, and i live in akron (about 4 hours away). some friends went down there, so i met up with them and had a blast btw.
my point is, i went 75-80mph about 90% of them time down i-71 to get there. when i got gas on the way back home i had 347 miles on my trip and the car only took 10.7 gallons. so if my elementary math knowledge serves me correctly, thats 32.4mpg. rock on honda and my 13 year old car with 150,000 miles on it.
the big three can eat me, ha!

my 96 ls got 35 mpg with 190k on it...i usually drive faster than 80mph on the freeway. but to be fair, 95% of everywhere i go involves the freeway. my wrx on the other hand...get 21mpg on the freeway

i think it is considering except for the coilovers being adjusted up and the steelies/wheel covers, the car is pretty much in my summertime race trim. i suppose the engine doesnt change much for that, but being 20 degrees outside and having the heat on, my radio, etc, i didnt think it was too bad. i wasnt saying its the best out there, but im pretty impressed no doubt.
Explain race trim? And the '90 - '91 S1 trans actually has a longer 5th gear (and final drive) than the YS1, so it would be the better trans for fuel efficiency...

cold-air intake, header, test pipe. that kinda stuff. cold-air is great for added hp, but bad for fuel efficiency. more (efficient) air flow means more fuel.
Wrong.
Cold air is better for fuel efficiency.
It mixs with the fuel better
has more oxygen per sqare inch.
helps cool the engine.
lets you advance the timing more.
Which adds to more efficient burning which gives you more power for the fuel you use.
Yes the car will be adding more fuel if your holding your foot at the same place as if it was taking in hot air.
That it uses more fuel at the same amount of throttle you just need to let off more.
If you could mesure it so its using the same amount of fuel at hot air temp vs cold air temp.
The one with the cold air will be accelaring faster then the one with hot air so you will be able to let off the throttle even more and save fuel.
If you get what I mean, Ill just make up some fictional statistics to make it more understandable.
1 drop of fuel at 40C = 1hp
1 drop of fuel at 20C = 1.3hp
So you could let off the throttle 3% and the car will still be driving the same but using less fuel.
The reason why aftermarket intakes use more fuel is because they have been optimized for high rpm, at low rpm the air velocity isnt optimal for air fuel atomization.

Not to thread jack but I have a 96RS BONE STOCK and I'm only catching like 420km per tank (bout 260 miles)
Should I be seriously concerned? (I had a WRX prior to this fully built so it only got like 17hwy) Purchasing the RS seemed like night and day in comparison but everyone else running b18a/b's seem to be getting much more mileage than me....
I'm about 40/60 as far as city/hwy driving....

I have a similar story. I was going up to NY from northern VA. The trip usually takes 6 hours and a little over 1 full tank of gas. I took I95 and drafted the semi's and I got to NY on a half a tank of gas! it was over 300 miles..

hahahaha... if that's a race trim. I don't know what you car a fully built motor + a turbocharger. Your race trim probably get +5whp from all that's stuff, and if you got a shitty (ebay) header it might even reduce HP. Cold air is good for your motor/fuel efficiency, the engine burn more complete, more advance timing, more hp, less fuel, etc....lol
i can push my 2000 gsr with itr pistons, intake, header, exhaust about 350 miles on a tank all highway. i usually average 30 normally. i don't beat on my car all the time either.

Oh mpg is the last thing on my list of things to do. The alignments way outta whack and has too much blue trim (emblems, cluster, some interior). All that's gotta get fixed before I start doing any work on the motor.
