Mounting a third reverse light
Hey all, ive done and search and i did find the post about changing the third brake light to a reverse light but what i want to do it mount an additional light as i want to do the all red tails conversion to a set of altezza's im getting.
I was actually thinking of using one of the reverse lights off an Hyundi excel (tell me you have these cars in the US) so it will look like when u hit reverse (the oem reverse lights will light up (red) and the third light will light up white as per specs
questions;
Has anyone done this?
will splicing into either one of the brake light wires cause the existing brake lights to not function?
ie due to the drop in power being supplied to the lights?
How hard would it be to cut into the bumper and hook up the new light? would it bugger up the structural integrity of the bumper?
Sorry about the general nature of the questions

I'm not sure I get what you're going to do with the wiring. If you splice into the brake light wiring, you'll have to use a relay or something to prevent the Hyundai lamp from coming on every time you use the brakes. But you probably don't have to splice into the brake light wiring - you want the back-up light wiring.
The plastic bumper skin isn't structural. If you have to cut up the steel beam underneath, that'll mess up the structural integrity.

well, as far as the wiring...it would be simple. On the reverse lights, there are 2 wires because it is a single filament bulb. One + and one -. So, you'd take the neg and ground it to somewhere on the chassis. And take the pos. wire and tap it to the positive wire of the factory reverse lights. That's all there would be to it. You might have to upgrade the fuse to slightly more amps. Other than that, there's nothing to it. Then when you put the reverse lights on, they would come on.

The reason im looking at doing this is, I wanna do the all red tails conversion, that would mean that the reverse lights light up red as well, which is illegal in Australia... so I just figured this would solve the problem... i didnt think it was rice, just functional... that or i could just remember never to back up infront of a cop.
thanks for the info guys
