if you're going to buy a header for a stock ls for $500.. why not spend around 300 on a jdm itr header or some dc-sports headers and spend your remaining $200 on a 2.25 or 2.5 exhaust at your local muffler shop.
a hytech or other pricey header like that seem a little overkill for a stock ls, especially if you are running the stock exhaust system( will still have bottlenecks)
if you want a new exhaust system do it right and get a header AND exhaust..

VHOA is right man, you could get something better for the money you going to buy a header. I learn my lesson too with bolt on, got intake and header and hi flow cat and exhaust system and I only could hear my intake and my exhaust begging me to stop reving it. But with a turbo man it like my engine alway want me to rev the $hit out of it.

It's a good idea if you aren't doing much with it,
but would you want a cheaper header, and then buy a Good one later on?

It's better to just get the good one, and then later on with more engine work, you won't need to spend more money for it.

i don't see the point of buying a $500 header and putting it on a stock exhaust system. it seems like the OP would see much better gains from a slightly cheaper header AND exhaust rather than a spendy header w/ factory exhaust= bottleneck central

gaining 18 whp out of a bone stock car? ******* amazing..

Then can you find reason in buying something cheap first off,
and then buying the Same exact part but better quality because the first one wasn't good enough in the long run?

i was planning on getting the header, and then when i get the money get a test pipe and an exhuast, but after all this talk ithink i might just save up for a supercharger....but wouldnt i need the header and exhuast to make good power with the sc anyway?

Yes, long as you don't plan on a Turbo, get a good header now.

There is my logical reason they are around the same as an intake (which does almost nothing) and a catback which usualy loses the car power. They are good mods down the road but for a stock motor they do close to nothing... 500 dollars for nothing.... I dont get why people do it</TD></TR></TABLE>

thats BS. A better flowing catback, header and intake will gain power on a stock motor.

i dont think hes saying it wont make gains...i believe his argument is that its not the best bang for the buck...which in reality it isnt...for that 1500 you spent on your exhaust package you could have pieced together your own turbo kit and make gobs more power for the same or slightly more money...

i personally do not have an aftermarket exhaust on my car...i had 500 lieing around...and i put it to a b16 tranny...when i had another 250 lieing around i put it to a nitrous setup...needless to say ill walk a i/h/e integra

i got some used dc sports headers, 4-2-1, $50, take them to an exhaust shop and have them put on a 2.25-2.5" exhaust with their pipes (should be around $100) a high flow cat $30-50 (or a pipe) and a muffler $40-80 and you are set
then get a cold air intake (an exhaust shop can do this for you for $30) then put a filter on the end
now you have saved enough money to buy some suspension or tuning

My original post said the best bang for the buck would be NOS.

1500 on bolt on's is exaggerated to say the least. Keep in mind other internal work if ever done will see very little gains because the motor cannot breath from both ends.
