MOBIL EP motor oil 15,000miles
So Im looking to change my oil at autozone. i go to the oil spot and pick up my usualy Mobil 1 ful syn motor oil. then i look to the left, and i see mobil 1 super synthectic (fully synthetic) motor oil guarenteed for 15,000 miles or 1 year, (whichever comes first. does anyone have anything to say about this oil? I have a 2001 GSR and it runs great, from the sound of it the oil should be good, and mobil 1 is the best oil out there, but 15,000 miles? anyone using this? any suggestions? LMK
Im using a Honda OEM filter with a brand new oil drain bolt () and new crush washer.
thanks
Rob
BTW:
Heres some info on the oil:
Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 meets the following industry approvals:
* ACEA A1/A5, B1/B5
* API SL
* It also meets the requirements for diesel powered vehicles where an API CF or CD oil is recommended.
All Mobil 1 Extended Performance viscosity grades have been tested to be fully compatible with engine seals and conventional oils. A special oil filter is not required.
Mobil 1 Extended Performance motor oil is designed for today's longer service intervals. Mobil 1 Extended Performance products contain 50 percent more SuperSyn, 37 percent more cleaning agents, and 36 percent more anti-wear additives than Mobil 1. Mobil 1 Extended Performance with the Advanced SuperSyn System helps keep engines running like new and helps extend engine life by reducing wear and oil breakdown. Please follow the recommendations in your owner's manual while your car is under warranty.

I haven't used it yet, but it's probably worth it if you will really run 15k mile intervals. Most people don't even take advantage of longer OCIs with regular Mobil 1. I know that people over at http://www.bitog.com (bob is the oil guy) like it, they refer to it as M1 EP if you wanted to search for it. They should have some used oil analyses and some analyses of the info sheets.

Man, i just cant bring myself to see 15,000 miles without an oil change. I've held up traffic changing my oil on interstate 45. Long story short, plead insanity and have been changing my oil every 3,000 miles since.
My main point is, oil seems to be really important, and no matter what brand you choose don't trust it to last that amount of mileage. You have to consider what vtec will burn off, and topping of might get expensive. Go cheaper and more often (as applies to life) for peace of mind.
My 2 cents worth. Good luck!

Well the bottle say 15,000k, its mean that it is recommend to be 15,000k for safe, and it might actually be able to handle more than 15,000k.
Like regular oil, i heard people tel u to change every 3,000k, but i heard from the people that from the inside said that it actually go up to 5,000k, but 3,000 is a recommend.
So maybe you can might be even go over 15,000k.
Like my friends always tell me "You get what you pay for"

Its possible that the oil might be able to stand up for over 15,000 Miles, but what about the filter???? Usually the filter gets clogged way before the lifespan of the oil. So even though the oil will last that long, the filter won't

1) Filter wont last.
2) Depending on the weight M1 syn thins out like crazy after a few thousand miles.
3) I dont feel comfortable going past 7k on a good syn, even if an analysis tells me otherwise. 15k is outrageous.
4) 3k is an insanely short OCI, especially on Syn. Id go rule of thumb 4-5k fossil and 5-7k Syn (obviously depending on formulation).
Bottom line, change your filter no later than every 5k, and do not leave that in for 15k.

Re: (Rory Breaker)
well, not to second judge you guys, but when i got the oil filter from honda the people there said the oil filter should have no problem withstanding the long interval. also, mobil says that the M1 EP requires no special filter for its oil.

Re: (Robstunner4)
I do not trust any filters ability to work at 100% efficiency for 15,000 miles. That just isnt right.
As for Mobil, of course they will say that. They also probably threw in "but our M1 filters are designed to work properly throughout the entire extended interval" or some bullshit.
Would it last 15k? Im sure it would. Does that mean at 15k it has the same properties it did at 2k? I cant imagine. And if not, then to me, there is no point in running it.

I agree.. even though the bottle says 15,000 miles.. it is also gonna be 15,000 miles old.
I would rather have fresh oil in my engine every 2500-3000 miles. its not a lot of money and not a hard job to do every 2500-3000 miles, so I will continue to change it.
Although I did put it in my sister 2001 Impala, and I am going to be doing an oil change this weekend on it. It has about 7000 miles on it. So I will see how it looks.

Re: MOBIL EP motor oil 15,000miles (92integraVTECgsr)
I personally like to change my oil every 2500/3000 miles, but oil can last ALOT longer than that.
I totally beleive that this stuff would last 15000.
My dads 87 accord went over 20K someteims without an oil change and the engine had 289000 miles when we tossed it. The motor was still healthy too. With that, Im sure that this oil would last 15k, although i personally wouldnt do it.

Exactly what Im sayin. This 15k mile oil is gonna get 5x dirtier compared to 5 oil changes at 3k miles each...right??

ya mobil1 is pritty good oil but I think it will only last 15000 if you drive like a old fart. when you rev you to 8g's every time you pull away from a stop light like me im sure the oil brakes down a little quicker.

I had an 83 Chevy Cavalier that had its oil changed in 10k to 25k mile intervals on whatever brand and type was on sale at the time (sometimes even mix and match brands and weights). There's 187k miles on that engine, and it still running strong. So, its had less than 18 oil changes in 22 years...
That said, my Integra get changed at 7.5k mile intervals with full synthetic. The oil might be good for longer than that, but there's sompething about turning 8,200 rpm on old oil that makes me cringe. Honda specified a 7.5k mile oil change interval on non-synth, and I trust the Honda engineers. Then again, I add a quart every 3k miles or so to replace what burns off, so not all the oil is that old when it gets changed.

Re: (Robstunner4)
My friend just bought a 2003 Audi A4 3.0. First of All the thing is awesome, but the car to the side, he only does one oil change a year. Thats what the company calls for. Its either 12k or 15k miles before the next oil change. Its not too surprising since technology is soooo far advanced even from 5 years ago. Engines from the factory only need like a 500 mile breakin period. There basically broken in when they leave the factory. I LOVE TECHNOLOGY!!!

Re: (Robstunner4)
but yeah, i do understand what you guys mean about old oil like that on a high revving car like this. i dunno what im gonna do, it was only $0.70 more a bottle than regular synthetic oil, so i dont really care if i have to change it in 5K miles or less if i had to.
but yeah i heard the german cars are specified to have their oil changed every 15K miles or so as well.

Re: (Robstunner4)
Well, go with the ep and change every 5k. That seems like a happy medium. I would go that route with a close eye on your oil and change back if not happy with results, or you could just take of the oil filter relay quick and replace it every 3k miles
I would think more of your driving pattern with your car than about the oil. Just that if you hit vtec and blah blah blah, you might want to go 3k oil changes anyway. Besides if you have a magnetic drain plug you will want to get the shavings that do collect. If your a little more conservative with your driving then i would imagine this would be some miracle ****!!!
Go for it man, and let me know how the ep stands up to the filter. Good luck!!
