ls/vtec or Type R?
i want somthing that will run very strong and reliable....which of the 2 will be stonger? a LS/vtec with type r internals with bolt-ons and tuned? or a complete type r swap?....cant decide on what to do here..
well an ls/vtec is as good as the person building it.
if the motor is half asses then its ****. you would be better suited in the type r direction since it is a motor directly from honda

if you have the lsvtec build right then you shouldnt have any problems, but if you've got the cash, and want a better chance of reliability, go for the type R motor
the ls vtec is ok
but you got to remember that it has thiner rods and having high rpms on an ls the rods could and will bend. sooner or later
the type R the rods and thinker and will last longer on you.
the ls was built for vtecwhen the type R was build for the vtec

type-r nothing else is built like a type r....ls/v-tec with type r internals may be nice, but the way the type ar is built nad the head ...no is no simple comparison
Go lsvtec!
You can have a fully built lsvtec for close to the price of a type r. If you dont feel confortable building it yourself then take it to someone that has built plenty of reliable lsvtecs. You'll be very happy! I ran a stock ls block with stock b16 head for well over a year on boost making 280 on stock exhaust and revving to 8200 (not recommended but I did

Common misconception, the Type-R is just a hyped up name. If you built the LS/V the right way and build the R the right way, you're going to have pretty much the same motor. For daily driving and ~9000rpm, it isn't going to make any difference at all which motor you started with.
But if it floats your boat to have a false sense of "betterness" under the hood then by all means waste the money and buy the R.

I think it really depends on how much you have to spend.. I don't know how much it is for an LS/VTEC build but I think a type-r is safer because it is a factory BUILT motor. The head is moderately built with slightly more aggressive cams, valves, springs, and retainers with intake and exhaust ports that are ported and polished. Has a bigger throttle body, intake piping, single port manifold.. Also comes with a balanced bottom end, stronger pistons and rods and is also a true 1.8L.. Also has LSD and shorter better gearing... For reliability I'd say type-r cause it's factory built.. It's not too shabby on horsepower.. Stock type-r will put down around 165-175hp to the wheels... But then again you could also make an LS/VTEC put down a whole lot more power than a stock type-r.. Just depends on where you get it built and how much you want to throw into a LS/VTEC cause you could easily spend more on an ls/vtec swap depending on the parts you buy and labor for build and install and tuning... But since you asked about reliabilty.. I think a type-r is the way to go.. Expect to spend more or less then $4K for a type-r swap.. Costs for an LS/VTEC depends on you and how far you want to go...
In my opinion I would go ls/vtec since you already have the motor and just build it right and do the safety mods to keep it from slinging pieces of itself into the pits of hell (rod bolts, shot peen or replace weak ls rods, balance rotating assembly, etc.) you completely build an lsvtec and you will be able beat a hype-r anyday. but it comes down to your pockets. ~$4000 for type r n tranny or ~$3000 for a reliable lsvtec with a b16 tranny
