Default Ls vtec setup?

I'm looking to do a ls vtec swap in my 97 teg ls. I have a bare ls block and a bare b16 head with bronze guides. Is this a good setup for doing lsvtec swap? I know there is a thread for this but I couldn't find it (can someone post the link)...also what tranny would best work with this setup? I have an ls tranny but if need be I'll buy a different one...

Thanks Thomas

Sounds like a good start. GSR trans is good for a ls/vtec, depending on how high youre going to rev it.

b16 trans would be better though, short *** gear ratios

are you going to leave your car as obd2? or you plan on converting to obd1 for more tuning options?

You will need to convert to obd1 to be able to tune it.

you can get an obd1 gsr ecu or you can get a chipped P28 ecu

http://phearable.net/ has ecus and tuning options as well, they can do your obd1 conversion with your ecu and dizzy too

if you don't know how to build a motor you're better of getting someone else to build it or good chance you'll blow it up. Most everyone blows up their first motor they build whether it is a small block 350 or a motorcycle. If you need to daily drive it just have it built.

your gonna have to do some research to find out what your building it for. kinda hard for us to tell you what you should do. oh and theres like a 100 page thread on how to build one.

good luck and have fun.

Better if you have the redline to support it. 6500-7k isnt that great with a B16 trans. 8500+ and you're fine....assuming you dont have a turbo w/ tons of torque either.

i've had both b16 and gssr transmissions on my ls/v and for me daily'ing my car more now gsr is way better.

what's your plans for this motor what use is it going for? answering that question is going to dictate your build and help others to help you. good luck with the build.

ok if you want good gas mileage gsr is better because the gear ratios are longer, if you want acceleration, b16 is better because it has shorter ratios

DD ls/vtec = GSR Transmission in my opinion. Keeping in mind that I currently have a B16 w/ 4.785 FD installed currently and it turns over at 4700ish at 80mph vs 4k like a GSR.

I'm not worried about gas mileage if it's in the 20ish range that's fine...I can afford gas prices lol...after the swap I would probably run premium 93 anyways...I want power but also be able to drive it daily...

plenty of people daily drive b16 trannys, the only reason they prefer gsr is because it revs a little lower. So you're going for 250whp on Lsvtec turbo set up?
