LS-VTEC

Re: LS-VTEC (Eclipse spanker)
Don't listen to any of these people that think they know everything about Ls/vtec's. They have proabally never built or had one... I have a build Cr/vtec thats putting 228 hp to the wheels, and I rev it over 8500 several times daily... I have 12000 miles on the engine, and its running stronger than ever. Just make sure you have someone experienced build it... If you build it right it will be just as reliable as any other honda engine.

i quote: "DO NOT go LS/vtec. Give the Honda engineers (the same people that brought you vtec, and 1.8 liter engines that can produce 200 hp) a little more credit than that. Stick to your setup and work it up from there"

dude.. i've heard of ls/vtec hybrids that fucked up because of people just slapping the 2 parts together improperly..
if you get it done correctly (as some of my friends have), you will have a fine hybrid that will last PAST 10K miles.
and once you get it, you have to take care of it. check valves, oil lines, etc... make sure you get it done correctly and you will be very happy.
good luck

yea man just do a search on LSVTEC's im sure youll come up with a bunch of threads on how to properly build one THEY ARE NOT AS BAD AS EVERYONE THINKS! everyone says things like "oh i HEARD that this one guy had an LSVTEC and he revved it over 9500 and bent his valves" well yeah their not really as rev happy as everyone says you have to build them to rev high, oh yea another thing if you build it right it wont consume as much oil as mine......id prefer ITR pistons but maybe thats just me

Re: (Eckz2k)
I swear to god these people saying "dont go ls/vtec they are BAD" are so ignorant. LS/Vtec has a bad rep solely due to people who build them incorrectly. Alot of people who build ls/vtec's slap a vtec head on high mileage ls motors and rev the **** out of them. Weak parts of a ls/vtec would be the stock ls rod bolts and the bottom end. With arp rod bolts, new bearings, vtec oil/water pumps, balanced bottom end, correct valvetrain and a few other factors, the ls/vtec will last a very good amount of time. Build this setup correctly, its very potent, build it like **** and you are just another ls/vtec statistic. So all you people who say don't build an ls/vtec because it wasnt meant like that, please cut it out unless you know what you are talking about. If you look at it that way, you should'nt mod a motor at all and throw in aftermarket parts because Honda didn't do it from the factory. Well anyways, I'm not going to get any further into this, and there is plenty of info on here, so do a search or im me and I can give a few pointers here and there.

Re: LS-VTEC (dniedacess)
I am also tired of these ignorant people. Any "built motor" that is not completeley stock can go wrong. It is the time effort and part list that you use that determines the longevity and reliablness of any motor. You also have to take into consideration the way the car is drivenand the routine maintenence

yea, dont bother with the idiots telling you not to do it, they are the ones without one! or they built it incorrectally. basically start soaking up knowlage on how and what to do, as well as what goes wrong if you cut corners. start off with the link in my signature.

Well with my combo of itr pistons, ls block (bigger displacement) and gsr head that has been milled my compression equals out to about 11:1. High for a nitrous motor you say...depends on who you ask. As for being a recipe for disaster.....any recipe can cause disaster if you dont know how to bake. It's all in how you set up, manage, and also tune. with nitrous, as long as your not running to lean or rich then you have basically no worries. Of course there are a few more factors but so far I have had zero problems! Nitrous has a bad name due to how it was used when first introduced into the racing scene. So many improvements and research has been done to actually be a pretty reliable form of instant HP!

Re: LS-VTEC (redlinegsr)
Even the most reliable setups can be a disater with improper builder/user. I ran a gsr motor 11.1 compression 75 shot for a while, then i went b20 vtec turbo, completely stock(slapped together) it lasted through 6 months of all motor, then 3 months of JRSC and then 8 months of turbo, it eventually died but was not boost related. I also was untuned and a clusterfawk fuel system.
Next time i do a ls/b20 vtec ill build it right , but i do agree that alot of the bad reputation comes with improper building/install.
