I have a friend with a 95 integra ls. He thinks that it will be pushing 200 whp with cold air intake, header, rear section exhaust, and a jet chip. Will it happen with those mods?

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but nothing there will really "add" any horsepower to the wheels except for maybe the chip.

The intake, headers, and exhaust merely improve the flow of air into and out of the motor. The stock motor that he has will still be producing the same amount of power, but there will be more efficiency.

Say the LS makes 140 at the crank and umm...say 120 at the wheels. The efficiency increase will make the wheel power a tiny bit closer to the crank power, but that's it. Your crank power is still 140. No change there.

As for the chip, unfortunately us and our imports do not benefit much from chips like German turbo cars do. We can get like 10hp if we're extremely lucky. VW's and Audi's get like 50hp.

Tell him that.

 

So how much do you think he will make at the crank? I doubt he will understand the loss of power to the wheels. I think his false hopes comes from him building camaros and mud trucks. Now he wanted to build an import because it was cool. He thinks that his intake will give him 5-10 hp and the exhaust another 15 or so. The Nopi told him the Jet chip would give him a 20%-30% increase in hp.

 

His intake will give him maybe 5-7hp on top end. That's if it's a cold air intake. A short ram probably does nothing at all, same as stock. Same with exhaust and headers. Mostly high end power....and that being only like 5-10hp max.

I don't know for sure, but if you have 140 at the crank, which is what an LS has, most cars like ours lose 10-15% of power thru the drivetrain. Giving him the upper hand, I'll say only 10%....that leaves 126hp to the wheels. With the parts he's getting, I'd say he might get 135hp to the wheels, if he's lucky.

Keep in mind, that's only a 10% loss. If he has an automatic, expect 15% or more. Most cars lose more than that. His crank horsepower of 140 will stay the same.

Yeah, it's crazy. My friend with a 98 Audi A4 (stock is 150hp) got a PES (www.pes-tuning.com) chip which raised his boost level to 1bar. According to the dyno, he's not at 235hp TO THE WHEELS!

Crazy stuff. I wish I could spend $300-$400 on a chip and gain that much power. In that case, it's nearly 100hp to the wheels.

 

Yes, it is possible for him to say he has 20whp with those mods. But for anyone to believe that, they would have to smoke 5 pounds of chronic. Tell him my ride ,pictured here, has 100,000hp with only an intake.

15 hp from an exhaust, try 1 or 2 at most, if hes lucky he'll be pusing 130 at the wheels with that setup, and if he doesn't believe us, tell him to get a dyno, that'll shut him up.

 

That's for sure, yeah, go with him to the dyno!

 

i had those mods at one time i made 131.7 to the wheels. same 95 ls.i have recently add crowler 62403 cams on top of all that now i make 149.6 to the wheels.
by the way the jet chip sux!!! you need jg cumputer chip

 

Kwintegra, I'm impressed with the numbers you got from the crower 403's. 18 whp just like they say. Did you raise your redline or is it still stock? And did you replace your valve springs and retainers?

 

Ive told him about this but he dosent believe it. So I am going to let him buy them and just tell him i told you so.

 

Ya you are gonna be able to tell him I TOLD YOU SO big time... I like the jet with only an intake, haha.
