Default lost performance after cam install?

my friend just installed a ctr intake cam, and ITR exhaust cam into his 01 gsr. he also got cam gears installed as well. Now my question is that, before he got it installed he was beating his friends gsr by like half a car. then after he got them installed he lost by like 3 cars...

recap: installed ctr intake cam, itr exhaust cam and toda cam gears

he has intake and exhaust, and it is not tuned yet.

what do you think the problem should be? Does he need a header to open up the air flow? comments/answers please!

It is not tuned yet ... that is the answer

He should prob buy a VAFC and hook it up ... then take it to get dyno tuned and fuel system tuned ... they can tune his cams, fuel, and vtec point all at the same time on the dyno

provided the shop has a wide band fuel tuner

p.s. and he should go ahead and do a proper ECU reset and let it recalibrate itself

is his car bogging too?

vafc is engaging at 4400 and too much fuel will through everything off

definitely need to check timing if not already having done so, besides that the ratio needs to be tuned, almost everything has to re-fine-tuned after any kind of engine install.

first thing to do is your timming points
cause im a 100% sure that they are not
on point..
then think about the VAFC and tunning..

check timing
dont get v-afc installed yet-- put the money toward getting that header.
then put the header and cams on the car.. take it to get the v-afc installed and then TUNE that biotch!!!!

with intake/header/cams/cat/exhaust/vafc, gains are well over 20 whp

Install the header, install the V-AFC and get it tuned

First thing I would do is make sure the cams are real. Reason I say is there was this guy(not sure oif he still sells them) but he was selling fake ITr & CTR cams on ebay, and even though your friend may have not got them there, because of this guy there are now fakes floating around.

Did he get them from a trusted source? Who installed them?

If thats not the case then do what the others have said, It would just be ashame to waste $$ on tuning, if the cams were fakes to begin with.

well he bought the cams at Dynamic Autosports, and the cams and cam gears were installed by Scott on zendraedi...he now works at a shop called Syism...He's one of my friends, and I know that he knows what he is doing...Since it does not look like you're from around here, you probably don't know any of the things I named, but if you're from OC you know what I'm talking about, and Scott knows his ****, and Dynamic doesn't sell fake parts!

can he still hear the V-tec come on? it should be alot louder than it used to. if it is not then you got jipped or if you don't hear it at all then it means the v-tec is not coming on. check your oil level make sure the vtec solenoid is getting pressure.
