ya well im back to ask, yet another question. does getting a lighter flywheel make a difference for your car and what exactly does it do? im really clueless on this and i need your guys help.

 

The car revs a lot faster and the rpms drop faster also. Some people say its a hassle to drive with a light flywheel but I dont think so. Also makes rev matching easier (well at least for me).

I have a 9lbs flywheel BTW

 

if you plan on installing one, do your research...especially about the quality of construction. some brands of flywheel's teeth have been known to separate during higher RPMs and that certainly does not help out your transmission.

I had one on my prelude back in the day and I loved it. made it sound like a bike with the apex'i n1, haha.

while you're at it you might as well replace your clutch if it hasn't been in awhile or ever.

 

12lbs are nyce.

i have always been running a 7lb-9lb. i like the lighter flywheels for NA but on boosted i prefer a heavier flywheel ie. 9lb

 

it really depends on your driving habbits.

if you are a slow shifter, during regular driving, you'll more likely not like such a light weight flywheel.

anyhow, i think the topic of the weight of the flywheel all humbles down to personal preference.

to somewhat answer your question... a light weight flywheel reduces rotational mass. quicker revs(up/down)... etc.

Not difference performance wise in my experience. They just make rev matching easier, and shifting up an incline harder (san francisco! gah!). They also make you "sound faster" if you're the type to show off while idling by revving your motor out

I settled for 12lb ACT flywheel and I like it.

 

do you guys with the light flywheels feel a loss of torque? how noticeable is it?

You will notice a difference, will be happy with how fast the motor revs, and the ease with which you can heel toe.

Heavier flywheels get the car going easier from a stop. With a light flywheel, and the load of the AC, it takes more gas and clutch effort to get the car moving. I think...

 

well in my case, and the infamous problem ive been having, is that my car stalls occasionally when the fans kick in... i also have an 8 lb flywheel, im just wondering if i can pin point my erratic idle whoas to that

Not really. My car sometimes stalls coming to a stop w/ the ac on. The flywheel drops revs hardcore when i clutch down and brake.

 

I have a 7lb fidanza and a exedy clutch I really like it its not that different I stall it from time to time but meh its not to hard to drive with, it does make to pick up a little quicker past 4k sounds mint lol

 

what most people replied is true..i have a fidanza and i stall constantly..at the light and when the ac is on..but it revs a little quicker

Around 17.5-18 lbs

 

a lightened flywheel is great for the race track . their main purpose is to reduce the time it take for an engine to reach its peak power . lightened flywheels are not ment for the street due to the fact that they reduce so much rotational mass . they alow the motor to slow down to such a point that the rpm's cant catch back up . this is why you guys are experiencing stalling with the a/c on .

 

I too just installed a Fidanza 7.5lb Flywheel and OEM spec Exedy and it really isn't that bad to drive, yea the rpms do drop quicker, but its a lot easier to rev match as stated above.

 

i thought a gsr flywheel weigh around 35 at least thats what a friend told me and also when i lefted one it sure felt like 35 pounds but i could be wrong cuz i he could be messing with me

also man my car is an everyday car what do you think i should do with the whole flywheel situation go light or keep oem. and damn does having a lighter flywheel really make you stall with the ac because that really sucks

 

just keep it stock unless your going to the track

I daily my car too and i commute from new jersey to new york city. Its not that bad. If anything it saves me gas since I don't always have the ac on in stop and go traffic. If you're that concerned go with a flywheel that is less than OEM but more than my 7 lb. I think the pros outweigh the cons. OEM is too heavy in my opinion, especially with a gsr trans.....but If you don't auto x/track it then save your money.

 

LS and GSR flywheels are both 18 pounds.
The Integra Type R flywheel is 12lbs.

I am using an ACT streetlite flywheel which is 12.5lbs, and I think it is a great compromise between stock and a fidanza 7pound.
