Knocking while releasing clutch
Hi everyone:
I've been having a weird problem with my 1997 stock Integra. As I'm releasing the clutch, the whole car(in the motor) makes a big knocking sound and as it knocks, the car jumps. It's like the clutch is "skipping" then catching, skipping then catching, etc..
Other than that, I don't see anything wrong. Ie: My clutch itself seems to be fine other than that. The clutch seems to grip fine in all other situations..(even if I dump the clutch and burnout, for example)
Any idea what this could be?
Thanks
Edit: It's especially worse when the motor is cold.

Do you know its the engine? Have some one outside the car listen for the area that the soudn comes from (maybe with the hood open, take off and see if u can see anything knocking) Mine used to do it, but it was a wheel stud problem, i lost one and they were loooooose....So the rim was being knocked around...poor buddy clubs

Re: Knocking while releasing clutch (Jonzo)
Dang, I went throught a clutch every 30k on my Cobra, but I drove the crap out of that thing. IDK how long stocks usually last, but I would have to take a wild guess that its got some wear for that many miles. When It knocks can you feel it in the pedals at all?

Bleed the hydraulic lines. My GS-R did the same thing when my clutch fluid was old, and had a little bit of air in the lines. Also, with that many miles, it could be that the clutch is just tired. I replaced my clutch with a 3 puck Exedy, it chatters, but I know why it does it.

My teg has the same problem. i dont think it is the actual clutch that is causing the noise, but just when the car shakes, like changing gears, it makes a knocking noise like something is loose. I have no idea what it could be, and ild love to know the answer too!

This could be very possible, I will try it this week and let you guys know how it goes.

Okay. Let us know how it turns out.

I have an Exedy flywheel (9.46 lbs), with the three puck clutch. Under normal driving, I take off around 2,000. The key for me has been to avoid slipping the clutch, as this only increases the chatter. Barely put your foot on the throttle, and then quickly and smoothly release the clutch. After having my clutch for about a week, I had re-learned how to drive my Integra.

Re: Knocking while releasing clutch (Jonzo)
The torsion springs in the clutch disc are likely loose and rattling around between the disc and pressure plate. Its quite common for the hub of the clutch disc to wear and allow the springs to fall out. Eventually they make the clutch inoperable. Just my 2 cents.
