Default knock sensor install

i read the thread on the b20 build, very helpful. just need to verify something before i go drilling the block. it says to drill the right mount hole on the upper alt mount? so it would seem the knock sensor would replace the bolt the holds the mount? is this correct. im not questioning the info. im just trying to make sure i have it right before i drill it. i took a pic of the mount on the motor and have a screw driver pointing to where i think i should make the hole. thanx in advance for any info or comments. reyy

i would start calling shops that do this sort of thing. on the 18c a knock sensor is placed on top of the block very close to where the head and block meet. any place you have that's near a cylinder liner with enough meat to drill would probably work. it just has to be close enough to the cylinders to do its job

Avoid all that BS. Just rock a chipped ecu with no knock.

i talked to someone i trust last night about this situation. i think its doable. im gonna do it on the b18 block thats not being used, just to make sure it comes out right. then ill do the b 20. i dont want to run it without the knock sensor.

i agree wit (numberone) just do away wit it either get a chiped ecu since a stock b16 or gsr ecu isnt gonna let you run it at its full potental anyway so just disable it then you wont have to worry about it. n if you dont have a way to chip it hten ive read somwhere but im not sure if it will work but it said you can just ground the knock sensor wire 2 the chasy n it shouldnt throw a code. im not posotive about that though cuz i havent done that b4 i just diable it in the tune.

it wont take much to install the sensor. i just check and i already have the right size drill bit and tap. if it would just stop raining i could do a practice run on the b18 block. in the mean time i need to get the flywheel and stage 1 clutch installed onto the b 20 for my stepson. then hook the trannny to the block so we can drop it in in the morning. ill get pics of the sensor install when completed if interested. how much would a chip computer cost anyway? its really out of the question right now though. this project has gone over budget. i have the cost of the motor, trans, stage 1 clutch, turned flywheel, all new motor mounts, new radiator, spark plugs, valve cover gasket, passenger side axle, and misc. and to top it off when i pulled the front tires , i noticed they were shot. all this adds up to more then the car cost.

this is the sensor that dosent have a spot in the new block, this is the knock sensor im assuming. correct me if im wrong. i think im wrong here. the tap size dosent match up to this unit, i think this is a temp sender, it goes into water in the side of the block. there is no hole for it in the new block. the other two senders transfer over to existing holes. any ideas, im supposed to finish this up tonight. its going into a high compression b 20 if that helps.
