Default intakes and such

here is what my engine bay looks like right now.

is it worth it to swap out the short ram for a CAI? does it make that much of a difference? I have a V2 on a DC5 type S so i'm wondering if its "bad" like that is.

also, do you think its true that the short ram gives more low end torque than a CAI?

go turbo! lol

there was a thread a few months ago where some guy did dyno test on different types of intakes. surprisingly, certain intakes (brand names) significantly showed an increase in power, and other 2 didnt change much. i cant find that thraed anymore, but i know for a fact that i about read it.

i believe the shortram is prone to heatsoak. it also has better throttle response. the CAI isn't as prone to heatsoak. you get colder air from it. but it is prone to hydrolocking. thats all i know for now

The pic looks like DC2. I think that the Cold Air Intake would be better, powerwise. Some people I know prefer the old AEM CAI over the new V2 version.

Like who? Maybe on a DC5, because the V2 isn't a CAI due to limited engine room, but on a DC2, the V2 is much more ideal. The Bottom half has larger piping making it harder to suck water up (if you should drive through a lake) and produces better numbers over the origanal CAI. The numbers arn't much better going from SRI to CAI to V2, but if your trying to get all you can, go for it.
PS, for you for a clean engine bay.

No a CAI gives you more low-mid and a shortram you more upper mid-topend, b/c the CAI most of the time chokes on topend. There are exceptions though for CAI with 3" diameter all the way. Do a search this topic has been covered numerous times and there is some good information out there.

when i dynoed my car with an aem v2 as opposed to a short ram rs akimoto i gained 10 whp and 5 torque. cleaned up the vtec changeover and it was a used one with a crappy filter on it that had just before i got it hydrolock another gs-r hehe

buy an icebox so you get the low end torque of a shrort ram intake, use the Comptech Icebox to kill the heat soak factor as well as giving you the eair of a cold air intake. not only do you get the best of both worlds, but you also gain initial torque and hp because the icebox provide colder deenser air then the short ram in the engine bay.

pretty simple solution for 169.00 plus five for shipping.

if you want one i have a brand new one. pm me

Intakes are over rated.

Run 3" piping w/ Velocity stack on it.

hmmm....In tests done AEM only made power in the vtec crossover range and did not help on topend. However every motor is different.

Comptech on the other has proved it self well with its design surprisingly, however the only downfall I see is the the filter element does not filter very well.

There is a thread that is archived on this topic and it makes great topend power if you plan on reving high.

I have the had the Comptech short ram for a while and it made a noticeable difference in power and through my testing on the track it raised my trap about 1.5mph. I just got my Icebox and love it to death, very quiet but still can feel good gains. The Icebox will help you retain that good throttle response that Short Rams have but will give you that cold air you want to be ingested.

Can't believe no one said anything yet. DC2 is GSR and Type R only. LS, GS, RS, SE, and whatever is DC4. That is as long as its a 2-door. DB8 or something is 4-door

To add to this:
2 door Gsr or ITR= DC2
4 door Gsr= DB8
2 door LS/GS/SE/RS=DC4
4 door LS= DB7

I dont believe there are any 4 door GS or RS. I may be wrong but as far as I can remember there are none.
