improving mpg
hey guys, most of us know that gas prices are like through the roof right now. i am wondering in what ways can we improve our mpg. i've tried the usual tire air pressure, fuel filter, pcv valve, and new ngk spark plugs and wires. im thinking of upgrading the intake, exhaust, and header systems as well. do you guys know if these bolt-ons will increase mpg if you drive normally (not using a heavy foot)? im thinking of aem sri, apexi ws2, and skunk2 headers. are these good parts?
the apexi ws2 is not a straight throw muffler so you wont see too much of a difference between stock and that, i would recommend greddy sp2, its just as quiet as the ws2, but it is straight through, and right now i put an AEM CAI and the sp2, and to be honest i havent seen too much of a MPG difference, maybe a little but nothing too significant

so you're going to spend all that money on i/h/e just to possibly get an extra 1-2 mpg (not even garaunteed)? is paying for the parts really going to be worth the miniscule amount of money you might possibly save on gas?

the original post was about improving mpg, nothing else. i/h/e will cost much more than any amount of money you'll ever save on gas.

apexi ws2= $400
aem intake= 250
skunk2 headers= +250
$900 in parts
depending on where you live, thats like filling up your gas like 30-38 times already. Just save your money by not buying parts and just using it to pay for gas.

If you cannot afford gas, get a bus pass.

the bus pass will be cheaper than the i/h/e.

well actually it was only going to cost around ~$600 for the parts that i mentioned. again, improving mpg is my top priority goal (for the car) with a little spirited driving every now and then.
ive heard many things about the stock pieces being a bit restrictive which is why I thought that these bolt ons could let the engine flow a bit more freely meaning less throttle to achieve the desired speed and less gas used (improved mpg.)
then again i have a also heard that without a tune that this would actually reduce mpg. I guess what I am trying to say if it will actually reduce mpg (if even 1-2 mpg increase means at least 20 miles extra). I plan to keep the car for at least 5 more years so would this be a more viable option or just keep it stock?

cutting out the 'sprited driving' will do more to increase your mileage than anything else. buying i/h/e will only make you want to do more of it.
