ignition system upgrade
how big of a difference does an ignition system upgrade does to a stock gsr motor
i mean hp wise does it make a big difference if i upgrade my ignition system to msd or crane

don't mess with your ignition unless wear problems, or from upgrades that require ignition replacement...
stuff like ignition - if it aint broke - don't fix it - i'm not even talking upgrades

a different opinion:
I have a Jacobs ICE pak ... altho i have a Heavily mod'd engine ... I noticed a performance increase ... as well as getting better gas mileage now ..
to counter some of there points:
The fact is .. its a bigger/hotter spark .... that will aid in burning the gasoline more complete .... even with few mods ... if you got an ignition kit ... then reset your ECU .. and let it recalibrate itself ... you should see better MPG if nothing else ... so the ignition kit will eventually pay for itself ..

but there are a lot of parts out there, that wil only work in certain conditions, theres a lot of other things that could be done before a change needed for ignition...

if a stock gsr, i'd recommend to read about what other people are doing, and what you want to do with your car..
a good way in modifying/upgrading a car is seeing where you going to end up, predicting few steps ahead of time, this would help to save lots of money in long run... don't just buy any parts, plan ahead of time and buy only what you need...

waste of money they only do you any good if you have a turbo or running nos. Stock you wont benifit at all. Only get one if you have heavy mods

I am at a loss here... I do not consider myself "Heavily Modified"...
I have:
DC Sports 4:1 headers
Crower Stage 2 Cams
5Zigen Cat Back
ACT Stage 2 setup
V-AFC
AEM CAI
AEM Underdrive pullies
(these being the parts in play that I can think of, many other parts changed...)
I noticed a smoother top-end, along with increased fuel MPG... yet your post indicates not to change the the ignition control system... am I an anomoly?
I have an MSD system, with MSD wires for this result... so the question is:
At what point does the weak stock spark need changing?

not an anomoly..just a freak of nature. j/k maybe you can increase your gas mileage(questionable to most) and get a "smoother" top end according to your butt dyno...but that is not worth it in most people's opinions. To know when you need to replace components, please consult your helms manual.
1. Used to feel "shakey" at 7k plus (yes seat of the pants...)
2. Went from 32MPG to 35MPG immediately after installing MSD (I track my mileage daily, as it is a write off for me!)
My question is: Better spark under the right conditions will provide for a cleaner buring combustion stroke. So what are these conditions to achieve optimal result from this upgrade? The best way I can think of it, is adding Iridium plugs to a stock engine, vs. adding Iridium plugs to a forced induction engine.
hehe... ok, point taken. But here are the facts as I can present them...

well i cant deny the facts...perhaps it is better for your engine..but from a performance aspect...i cannot say the same.
I am really curious, as I am at a major decision point, but I am sure that there is components that I have missed outside of majore engine rebuild and forced induction... which I dont want right now... I want all motor setup.
P.S. thx for the
here is one back at you!
MSDs are a must if you're running any kind of FI or high compression.
Otherwise, they'll only get you better gas mileage, a smoother power band, better idle, quicker cranking and better throttle response. I've had em on every vehicle I've owned and they're great upgrades for the health of your car. Slight performance gains to be found with stock motors (1-2 hp maybe), but it seems as if the engine appreciates it more than anything

What would you spend the money on then? I know this is difficult question, based upon current configuration. However, aside from modifying fuel delivery, and major engine level components (port and polish, higher compression configurations, etc..) I have pretty much done it all... So what would be your choice at this point?

if you tell me your mods and what you plan on doing, i could gladly give you some suggestions.
