Default idling issues

Well when my car is first started, my rpm's are bouncing from 2500-3000 and back and forth for a good 2-4 minutes. It then proceeds to lower itself while still bouncing by 500 rpm's before finally staying constant around 800 rpms. Is this because it is about 45-55 degrees outside and my car just needs to warm up longer or is it something more prominent?

All cars idle high when they are 1st warming up, once they get warmed up they idle will drop to normal.

No joke, however they dont bounce 500rpms constantly while doing so. Check your FITV (theres a thread somewhere), then for air in your coolant and then your IACV. If it idles down eventually then its almost got to be one of those 3 items. BTW, have you done anything recently/right before this started happening?

BTW, the FITV is under the throttle body and the IACV is on the backside of the intake manifold.

No i didn't really do anything to the car before this started to happen. One day the maintenance light came on, and I cleared it using the reset button because i have a motor swap. I was told that it had nothing to do with my current engine and that it dealt with a timer and how many miles you put on the car.

Indeed, the maintence light has nothing to do with anything but the little timer box under the dash.
