ICM Fried?
Well guys ive finally got the head back for my ls and i pieced it together and as of 12pm yesterday its been done, but my luck it wont start, because i dont have a spark!
I have an external MSD Blaster 2 Coil and MSD Procap. Heres the deal: Im gettin 12v to the coil yet i am getting no spark to the plugs. I took out a plug and wire and did a spark test and none of the cylinders are firing.
Heres what we think happened: When i ran the wires for the external coil i made a slit in the seal of the cap to run the wires through. I made it small so it would still make a good seal. That means the wires were right up against the aluminum weather seal for the dist/cap. Yet the first time we tried to start the car, we got a electric burning smell.
Then we looked at the wires going to the coil and there is bare wire showing where the spark was arching and we think it arched right to the aluminum dist. housing and caused the ICM to fry. Now the question is, that having the spark arch like that could possibly fry the ICM?
Or is my whole dist. wiring fried? Would it be worth it just to buy a brand new dist? since the ICM is around 170 and a rebuilt dist is around 220? Help would be greatly appreciated.

hey same here i just replaced mine also. mine kept on frieing because of a damn ground. this is the 3rd one! so far so good. oh and if your going to buy a new ignitor, i think the best bet would to be, is to spend the extra 50ish bucks on a new distributor. http://www.distributorking.com has some great prices and some fast shipping, as long as awsome customer service...oh yeah and of course the 3 year warrente!!! good luck by the way.
