Default icebox ?

what is the main advantage?
is there a difference in power from a CAI or is it just the prevention of hydrolock?
thanks

some dynos show the Icebox getting better gains...

I like it because..

-there's less of a chance of sucking up dirt
-the foam filter flows better (at the cost of higher maintenance)
-the design mimmicks stock, and the box is physically mounted (not free/rubbing).
-you can use the original airhose
-you can take out your turn signal and the tube opening faces forward

the comptech one doesn't filter as good as the k&n so you are getting more debris into your engine, but you should expect that since it flows a little better

no no....on track days you can take out the turnsignal and your intake opening is right there....

edit\\\

with regards to more stuff in the engine... you clean the filter much more often...and it's located higher up so it's not vacuuming as much off the ground...

The Ice Box is NOT cheaper than the AEM CAI if you are getting the short ram intake with it as well. The Ice Box has almost no chance of sucking up water and it sounds much quieter than the AEM. On top of that, it shows larger low and mid range gains than the AEM. I have it and I love it. I suggest getting the short ram intake in combination with it though.

The shortram has larger piping, smooth mandrel bend turns, and is a tapered design, it will increase air velocity over the stock tubing. Weither or not that increase is worth $160, well thats another story

I'm glad I switched to the ice box.I had the AEM,its a great intake but I believe the ice box offers a better all around intake.

Exactly my point. In theory, the larger and smoother piping SHOULD help, but there have been some people on the Type-R forum who have done dyno runs with the stock intake tube and the Comptech intake tube and there was no difference. I personally would use the stock intake tube and save the $160.
