My car is running like crap, every now and then it will just die at idle and I have to try to drive like I have three feet(one brake, one clutch and one to keep the RPM's above 1500). it makes this funky loping sound and the check engine light comes on...I checked the code and it is 14 (IAC). how can I tell if it is a bad IAC, a wiring problem, etc?

Probably sticking... pull off the IAC and clean it with some carb or throttle body cleaner. Clean the area around it and the throttle plate while you're at it.
