i don't know how smart it is to eliminate your CEL by turning it into a shift light. why don't you choose another light like airbag or something?

Re: how to turn check engine light into a shift light (.day.)
Why in the hell do you need a shift light? Can you not drive a manual?
My buddy had a z24 and it had a shift light, it pissed me off to no end because everytime the car hit 3000 rpm it would come on. He finally yanked the whole thing out.
Sorry I didn't add any helpful hints just sounds like a idea to me.

I remembering reading about this too (pretty sure it was with hondata). The CEL light wouldn't be noticable enough for me. I'd just buy one of those small shift lights and mount it somewhere that you will notice while your eyes are still on the road.

Re: how to turn check engine light into a shift light (RK)
dont worry. when you get more experience you'll learn to tell by the sound of the engine ~ what rpm you are and then you'll learn to look down at the thing called the tachometer and see how close you are to redline. it all comes in time little grasshopper

I have 2 shift lights...one on the hondata using the CEL, and an LED unit mouted to the guage bezel, 1st one comes on at 8,000rpm, second one comes on at 8,600rpm. I use both during drag racing, and only the second one when at an autocross/road course event, it helps quite a bit when you're looking at the road.

i was thinking the other day, I like to have three extranal LED's.
1. One for vtec engagement.
2. another when secondaries kick in
3. and the third for rpm redline (shift light)
Is this possible? Guys... dont ask why I want this, I'm just wondering if its possible.

But what about a light for when the secondaries kick in? How does that work... is there anything in the stock ECU? What about the Hondata? - let me know

Re: (majeed11)
Well for the seconadaries you will have to create it yourself as there isn't a how-to on it. If I remember correctly, the valve or soleniod or whatever it is that opens up the butterflies, is operated by a trigger signal from the ecu. So find that wire and use that as a trigger to light your led. Good luck

Re: how to turn check engine light into a shift light
So my check engine light is being used as a shift light.... How do I check to see if it’s throwing any codes cause Brecht definitely isn’t engaging on my car.
