Default How F'd up is this?!!?

ok..today, I reached my breakin perioud for my new motor. I ran it or 500 miles. That was the recommended period. So I did an oil change today. So, I did the routine oil change. drain the oil, put on a new filter, fill 'er up with some Mobil 1. Everything normal, ya know ? I start it up...it ran for a few minutes to get warmed up...and all of a sudden...NO oil pressure. My gauge reads a big fat 0. what the hell could've went wrong ? my number 1 piston, or rod, or something, is starting to make a slight chatter. it's not a full blown knock yet. anyone have any ideas ?? i'm clueless

Tell us more.

Was this BRAND NEW, or something you bought from somebody with questionable provenance?

If it is brand new, then take it out and send it back.

Was the motor brand new ? I guess you could say that. I got a Jasper engine. So all the parts from top to bottom were brand new. Most being OEM honda parts. The only parts I had to put on were external..such as intake manifold, exhaust manifold, etc... The only thing that REALLY sucks is this is the 2nd Jasper engine I've put in. The 1st one did the same thing, lost oil pressure shortly after installation. I've checked, checked, and checked dozens of times, and there are NO oil leaks at all.

Wow, that sucks. I can't offer much insight for the immediate oil pressure loss...unless they're doing something in the rebuild process to **** up the oil pump...I don't know. As a tip for the next motor, IMHO put a few more miles on using regular dinosaur oil before you switch to Mobil 1. As the proud owner of a nice '98 GSR that EATS OIL, I'd recommend you go at least 5K, as the previous owner of my car didn't. All new seals for me...

Good luck,

Matt

It's not a result of poor break in procedure if your oil pressure goes straight to zero and you're showing no leaks. The problem lies in the oil pump my friend. It's not pumping oil to lubricate the internals, thus creating no pressure in the lines. Best thing to do, don't drive it. Take it back to whomever did it and show them the problem.

I suppose you checked your dipstick and the oil is there, it's not GONE...

Oil pickup in the pan plugged up? When you drained your oil, what did it look like? Was there anything suspicious in it?

Did you assemble the oil pump or was it already installed when you got the engine? How about the oil pan and the oil pump suction tube?

Two engines in a row - dang, that's quite a coincidence. But I can't think of any kind of driving habits that would cause this. Gotta be something you or they did while assembling the engine.

yes, I checked the dipstick. The oil is still sittin down there, as clear as can be.
When I drained the oil, nothing suspicious came out. It was dark. That's about it. lol The oil pump was already installed on the new motor when I got it. I had to put the oil pickup tube on, but that's been working fine for, about 2 weeks now. So I don't see how that would've quit. I really don't get it at all...I'm gettin ready to call the guy that did it and see what his opinion is.

You wonder if he blew all the metal filings, etc. out of the engine before he put it back together. I'm thinking something like that may have froze up the pump.

take it back. if you have gone through 2 engines with the exact same problem with them, that should tell you something.

time for a different swap

I though Jasper Engines had a great warranty? I would take it back since it is so new.

i have a Jasper replacement in whats left of my rotted out 85 CRX Si....

Those guys dont know much about imports... they thought that all the motors for Hondas of a certian gen were all the same motors(1st gen carbed motors have a diff head for the CVCC then the Si) those guys sent me a carbed block and kept telling the shop that it was the same motor...

Take it back.. you broke it in correctly. There warrentee is like 3 yrs 50,000 miles what ever comes 1st. I dont htink I have more then 15k on my old Si motor... I jsut need a better car to put that sucker in.

Just call them and bitch they should send you a new motor quick as hell.
