Default How close to the tranny should the axle be?

I know its supposed to be "right up against the tranny", but does that mean literally against the tranny? So that a playing card wont fit through, or is a 1mm gap ok? The axle doesn't seem to go in any further, and I am positive that with a 1mm gap the axle is locked in place. Just curious if that is normal or not?

i wouldn't lose any sleep over it. you can tell when the axle clicks in when you're installing it.

Two years on and this problem still haunts me. It looks like the axle is supposed to be flush against the tranny. My axles have a gap because apparantly the Autozone axles are garbage and are shorter than the OEM axles...which is a bummer, I didn't want to have to buy an axle again.

Does anyone know anything about the transmission seal on the passenger side? Since I will be changing the axle soon I was wondering if it would be easy to change that seal as well?
