I've been shopping around for a new high flow catalytic converter for my 94 LS, and i'm seeing some from reputable names for over $300, and i see some from other companies i dont hear about too often for like $150. they all have the same pipe diameter and everything, but i dont know too much about cat converters. i dont care so much about the efficiency of the catalyst scrubbing the exhaust, so long as i pass emissions in northern va (arent i a great environmentalist...) i care more about power gains. the cat will soon be mated to the dc 421 cc header, and an apexi ws exhaust. so i dont wanna get taken by paying double what i should just for a brand name, unless you guys can tell me that the random tech, comptech, carsound, etc. ones do so much more than say like a cusco, or pacesetter cat. also with my future setup, will i need a cat with a 2.5" pipe diameter? any info is greatly appreciated...

Look into either Car Sound or Random Tech. I got my Random Tech for $175 on a group buy. I'm pretty sure you can have just about any muffler shop get you a Carsound cat. Just make sure they make it a bolt on applications. Shouldnt cost too much more and its cheaper then Random.

random tech rattle after an extended period of time. check out ipsracing.com they will make you a cat using a carsound cat. just tell them the exhaust and header sizes and they weld flanges on for you. good luck

I have a catco, it was 90 bucks and put up some good flow #'s according to a test that was posted here awhile back.
