HELP!!! Steering column problems!!!
What's up y'all? My fiance bought me a 95 GS-R, and when I checked it out, there are a couple problems. Most of them are easily fixed, but I'm stuck on the steering column. The whole damned thing is "spun" clockwise. I mean the column covers, levers, keyswitch, steering wheel, EVERYTHiNG!!! Do you guys have any advice for me? I've been told that I can remove the covers and release some sort of clamp, then recenter the bad boy, but I wanted to go straight to the Honda experts! Thanks a lot. Hopefully with your guys' support, this DC2 of mine will be more than a spur of the moment, Honda phase of my life, car.
Was the car a theft recovery? Usually that only happens (steering column 'twisted' or rotated) when the thief breaks the ignition switch & steering lock off when they pry against that, thus causing the steering column to bend. If that's the case, it's 8 x 12mm bolts that hold it in place and you can easily drop & pull the steering column out and swap it out for a new replacement. That's much easier than trying to 'twist' or 'rotate' the column back into its original shape.
Nah. It hasn't been in an accident. I ran a car history report before I had my fiance pick the car up for me. I also called the previous owner and he said he bought it from a dealer like that. Seems weird to me, but yea. I've been told that I can remove the column covers, tweak with a clamp and get the column recentered. Is it possible to pull the steering wheel off and put it back on so it's centered?
Sounds like a big job. And it sounds like the car has more of a history that noted on a car fax report.
Without actually looking at the column, i'd be inclined to say that you won't get it back to the way it was. Might need to contact a dealership on this one.
