help with ignition timing
Okay guys. I've never adjusted my timing before and so I'm somewhat unsure of what I'm looking at. I have everything setup: service connector is jumped, timing gun is setup...etc.
When I'm pointing the gun at the marks on the crank pulley...I use the pointer on the block as a reference point to which mark i'm at, right? It seems somewhat inaccurate to me because you can look at the mark from different angles...
Anyways, I was wondering if the marking colors are different from an LS and GSR.
I have an LS and I was wondering if someone can tell me which color mark is 18BTC. Thanks. Should it look like the diagram on C-speedracing? For some reason mine doesn't look like that. Anyways, Thanks guys. Much appreciated...

When you look at the pointer on the timing belt cover you shouldn't be able to see the sides of the pointer.
White = TDC
Red = 16 degrees BTDC. The two marks to the left and right of the red mark are +/-2 degrees. The side closer to the white mark is 14 degrees BTDC.

You should line the line on the block up with the one on the pulley. To find out which mark is the 18 DBTDC just advance the timing and see which mark is the correct one. If im not mistaken it should be the one on the right side of 16 BTDC.
