Default help identify this bolt

hey guys got a bit of a concern right now. I was driving today when all of a sudden I heard and felt something come off the front of my car. I actually kind of felt it on the bottom of my seat too. I stopped the car and went to see if I could find something and this bolt was lying right on the road.

The car doesn't seem to drive any differently or make any strange noises but I was hoping any of you could identify where it might of come from. I'm pretty sure its from the driver side since I felt something when the bolt fell off.

I have a 98 GSR with all options btw.

That's what it looks like to me too, a bolt from the black plastic timing belt cover. There are two of them, I believe.

If it is then you can simply reinstall it and tighten it down. They don't do anything other than keep the cover in place so it won't effect the engine or anything until you can find the time to reinstall it.

me agree, too. The top timing belt cover bolt. Never seen a bolt like that on the entire engine other than there

I wouldn't be surprised that your had your timing belt changed and when someone was putting the cover on, they stripped the bolt. The torque spec on that bolt is 86 in/lbs

Just looked at my parts, and it appears that everyone was correct. It is one of the two bolts for the upper timing cover. It connects the outer piece to the engine block. There are two holes near the drivers side engine mount. Take a 10 socket and reconnect it. Go around and tighten all of them while you're at it though.

same exact thing happened to me....felt like I hit a rock and jumped up and hit me....stopped drove back and saw on the floor a similar bolt....but why would that cause a big sound under my seat?...car still drives nice which is why I didn't pay much attention to it....by the way that was over several months ago and nothings happened...

one of the bolt IS that long. the one that connects to the front and the back of the cover.if it were short what would be holding the two top covers together. let me try and get a diagram i know for sure one is longer than the rest.

edit: number 18 maybe this is off an si though

guys thanks so much fro all your help. Most of you were right it is one of the timing belt cover bolts. I was very surprised to see how long the bolt is just to hold in that cover. Once again appreciate all the help.
