headlight adjustment
im trying to adjust my headlights because my car is lowered and i want to aim them up a bit. i know how to adjust them and i overadjusted them. they aim real high now. i hear your suppose to park roughly 25 feet away from a wall, but how high should the cutoff be against the wall? i tried 4 feet but after that the headlights aimed way too high. any suggestions.
First, measure the distance from the ground to the center of your headlights. Then, draw a line against the wall using that measurement as the height. When parked 25 feet away, your cutoff should be approximately 4 inches below the line that you drew. This is a good starting point, but I always use trial and error when aiming headlights. It took me a few days and a few trips to the "dark wall" to get my girlfriend's Cabrio E-codes aimed to my liking.
Yes. In actuality, there should be two "hot spots" that show up (brighter circles), and I believe the center of these hot spots should be 4 inches down from the line, but the cutoff will be close enough. As I said, you should also do some trial and error once they're roughly adjusted. A dark road will show you if they need to be moved up or down an inch. Basically, you just never want the lights to be aimed higher than that center line that you drew.
